29. How to get - and stay - organized with Jane Stoller from Organized Jane (you’ll love these simple, quick and easy tips to declutter your life, your home and your business)

3B4476EE-EE3D-422F-89A2-C5283388F8C0_1_105_c.jpeg

I have an honest confession here:  I don’t know if it’s the fact that we’re spending more time at home than ever before, if it’s that our business and responsibilities are growing, or the fact that my kid has a lot of stuff (thank you to the grandparents!!), but this year more than ever, we’ve been finding ourselves overwhelmed with clutter, we feel like we’re running out of space, time, and spend wayyy too much time cleaning… and yet don’t seem to be getting anywhere.

Can you relate?

Maybe it’s the overwhelming feeling you get when you go into your closet, or the frustration you have every morning looking for shoes, or the struggle you have trying to find that ONE receipt or document you KNOW you filed…. somewhere.

As our lives get increasingly digital, our responsibilities and families grow, our living spaces get smaller, and we spend more time at home, there has never been a more important time to talk about organization and processes than now.

Now, before you think “Lisa, that sounds boring”: You’re going to LOVE my guest Jane Stoller’s approach to organization.

Jane is a Swiss-Canadian life-biz organizer, speaker, author and university instructor whose passion is in decluttering spaces and organizing business processes. Jane wrote her first book Organizing for Your Lifestyle in 2016 to help friends get more organized. It ultimately gained international attention, which in turn this allowed Jane to turn her passion into a profitable business, Organized Jane.

Since then, she has helped thousands of people worldwide gain clarity and get organized with her critically acclaimed books, Organizing For Your Lifestyle: Adaptable Inspirations from socks to suitcases and Decluttering for Dummies. In addition to her sought after Business Booster course that helps business owners cut through the clutter and gain back their time.  Jane has also been featured on numerous TV talk shows, podcasts and magazines.

In this episode, she’s going to get you thinking about what your life will look like if you didn’t spend all that time looking for things, or digging through clutter, or trying to backtrack.

The way we’re talking about getting and staying organized today with Jane has a LOT in common with goals - something that really surprised, and delighted, me.

You’ll learn about where the best place to start is in your home and business to get rid of clutter. Jane shares tools to tackle the hotspots of your house - closet, kitchen, office, mudroom, and more - and gives tips for staying organized in the quickest and easiest ways possible. We talk about the best way to create systems and give you ideas of how to can transform your home and business with just 10 minutes a day.

To be clear:  This is about getting TIME back in your life. This is about making your OTHER goals possible - because you have the systems and organization in place to support what matters MOST to you.

Listen in Goalden Girls - by the end of this episode, you’ll be ready to understand how to make organization and processes simple, AND sustainable. With Jane’s tips and strategies you’ll truly have the time, energy, and both mental and physical space -- for tackling your goals, dreams, and live the life you want to live.

28. Before you give up on this year, listen to this pep-talk! (Even if 2020 feels like a waste and you’re feeling unproductive or overwhelmed)

This time of year, most people start to feel like they’re ready to give up.

There’s a reason New Years’ Resolutions are a cliche - because most people quit on them.

And to be clear - I’m recording this Sept 24 - 2020. But no matter when you’re listening - whether it’s 2020, 2025, or the year 3000 - the truth is, the temptation to quit - the overwhelm, the challenges - they’re ALWAYS there.

2020 is a year that will go down in history for many reasons. I’ve joked about it, but it for sure has created many moments that I will never forget - and while our parents told us stories about walking to school uphill both ways in the snow, I will tell my daughter that I walked uphill, in the snow, to stand in line to get TOILET PAPER.

Yup, it’s been a crazy year and here we are - it’s now the fall and I know what a lot of you are thinking.

A lot of you feel overwhelmed by all that 2020 has brought, wondering how you even begin planning for the future, and feel like you’ve wasted the year.

When it comes to the conversation of goal-setting, I’ve heard you tell me “Lisa, what’s the point?”

When you think about what you want to celebrate December 31st, a lot of you have told me “I’m going to celebrate 2020 being over.”

But I want you to know that I hear people ask me “what’s the point” and tell me they “want the year to be over” - EVERY year.

Now - to be clear.  If you haven’t felt disappointed, overwhelmed, scared, anxious, uncertain, and you haven’t ugly cried at least a few times this year - you probably aren’t human.  This has been an unprecedented year - and the fact that you’re still here, listening to this, tells me something:

If you’re still listening to this, there’s something inside of you that not even 2020 can take down.

There’s something inside you - an untapped, unrealized potential - that really deserves to come out.

By the end of this episode, you'll see that you actually already did accomplish a lot in 2020. You're going to stop wondering what's the point of setting goals.  You’ll get clear on what you should focus on. You’ll see how you can set goals without them being overwhelming so you can set yourself up for the rest of this year and even for 2021. If you're curious about what you can realistically get done - oh, I got you covered.

This episode’s a quickie - but get ready for an inspirational Heart to Heart from me to you cuz I know what's possible for you. What you're capable of, and what you're missing out on if you don't do yourself or, your life, your family, and your dreams the intention and attention you and them deserve.

27. An honest conversation about CBD oil, anxiety, stress, bad breakups, and more with Nadya Pecherskaya from ICARIA

CBD oil.

My initial thoughts when I heard about it was - isn’t that for people who smoke pot?  I wondered…  if I try it, Am I going to get high?  And…  Is it illegal? Will I get addicted?

Not only did I have a lot of reservations doing an episode on CBD oil but I also went in knowing pretty much nothing about it.

What made me change my mind - and open my mind -  to learn about it?

Hearing stories from friends and so many of you who spoke to me or DM-ed me privately saying things like “CBD oil changed my life.”  And “CBD oil was a game-changer for my anxiety.”

Hearing THAT made me wonder … “I wonder who else’s life could be changed if they could also learn about CBD oil - and with an open mind, can then make the best decision for themselves?”

YOUR stories about how much it helped you inspired me to learn more and say “yes” to having Nadya from Icaria come on our podcast and share her knowledge about CBD oil and teach us what it’s all about.

In this episode, you’ll learn the answer to a lotttt of questions I had - and you sent for me too.

Like…. Is it legal?  How much do I take?  How do I find a good source?  Will I get high?  Will I become dependent?  And if I’m using it as a supplement, what can I expect?

I know you’re curious about CBD oil, but you don’t know where to start. Or if you’re someone who uses it, I know you’re probably doing it in private and don’t feel open talking about it.

I hope this episode starts to change that and breaks down the barriers to us questioning our stereotypes, and being open to asking personal and tough questions.  AND to both sharing - and learning about tools that may help us.

Before I share my conversation with Nadya, my lawyer wants me to say that I’m not a doctor and neither is Nadya. We are two women sharing our experiences hoping it will help you in your life and goal-getting journey.

I also drop a swear or two in this episode, so if your child is a little parrot like mine, you may want to listen with headphones in.

I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it - I learned SO much about CBD oil - and you’re about to too!

26. How to stick to your goals and maintain momentum through summer vacation

AHHH Summer. Days at the beach. Swims in the pool. Margaritas on the patio. Suntans, sandy feet, late night sunsets.

If thinking of all those things don’t make you want to go on vacation right now, you might as well just stop listening to this episode right now.

Summer is here and in full swing. And I’ve been hearing from some of you that you’re not sure what to do with your goals right about now.

Maybe you’re the woman feeling guilty for taking time off your goal in the summer. Maybe you’re afraid that if you take the summer off, well, you’ll never get back on track.  Obviously, you don’t want to get stuck, lose momentum, and fall behind… right?

But I also know a lot of you are worried about burnout. I mean, haven’t you been through ENOUGH this year?!

Do you really still need to push, grind, hustle, and do all the things?!

So what’s a Goalden Girl to do? How do you balance goals - and summer?

Make no mistake - there’s a balance here:

On one hand, there’s the desire to make progress on your goals and the reality that success requires consistency? And that habits require you to actually do them for them to stay habits….

How do you balance all that …

With the desire to enjoy and make the most of your SUMMER, relaxed atmosphere, and the good weather?

Have no fear: I’m here to share some wisdom and tips with you to help you balance just that - progress and presence.

Listen in: by the end of this episode, you’ll be ready to:

  • make the MOST of both the summer season and good weather -- without losing momentum, guilting yourself OR burning out.

  • You’ll be intentional about what you actually want this summer, and how to make it happen

  • ANDDDD you’ll feel refreshed and excited about the next season when it does come - and ready to keep making progress

So, I mean, since it’s summer and all, while you’re listening, grab yourself a spot on the patio, pour yourself a glass of Rosé or jalapeño margarita (my current obsession), and enjoy this episode.

25. The truth about the pressure to be productive and if you should ignore it

There seem to be two types of people out there:

The first are the ones baking sourdough from scratch, starting businesses, reading books, taking online art classes, and coming out of quarantine with a clean house, having made or saved more money, and able to do more pushups than ever before.

…..and then there are the other people:  the ones who are binge-watching Netflix, and are so out of their routine that they feel they’re hardly getting through the days.

Of course, to match that, there are also TWO narratives you’ll see out there on the news, on social media and from most experts:

1. There’s never been a better time to #doallthethings - organize all of your closets, learn a new language, bake banana bread all day every day, aka “if you’re not being productive, you’re lazy.”

or

2. If you haven’t done #allthethings you always said you had no time for, well, you know that was just an excuse, aka “it’s ok to do nothing in a pandemic because these are extraordinary times.”

You know what I’m talking about, right?

So… which is the truth?  THAT is what I’m talking about today.

By the end of this episode you’ll:

  • Know which narrative is the truth (is it ok or not ok to be productive during a pandemic?)

  • Understand the importance of feeling & processing - and how that relates to productivity

  • Know what’s right for you (to be productive, or not to be productive, that is the question)

  • Have a new understanding of what it means to be productive right now

Most of all, I want you to be able to decide for yourself whether being productive is right for you, or not - beyond today, this week, and going forward.

You’ll know how to ask yourself what’s right so you avoid the burnout of over-production… and the inertia of being stuck.

Goalden Girl - you’ll know what’s right for YOU, which will allow you to be as productive as you want, in a way that feels great, leaves you energized, and has nothing to do with banana bread OR Netflix.

24. How to set, reset and get back on track with your goals in uncertain times

You started this year with HIGH hopes, big goals, and even bigger expectations.

And things were good for a bit, right?

Nobody could have expected a global pandemic to come sweeping in and turn all those high hopes and big goals completely upside down.

But it’s not just this year, because let’s be honest - crises, curveballs, surprises - ALWAYS happen, in big and small doses.

So what do you do when you need to reset your goal and get back on track? What do you do when you can no longer achieve your goal because of things completely outside of your control? How do you get back on track?

Maybe you’re wondering: should you change your goal, or even set goals when you can’t predict….well, anything?

Or you might be thinking: is goal-setting even relevant right now? How do I set goals during a pandemic when there is so much uncertainty about what the future holds? Do my goals even matter right now?

If you’ve wondered any of those things, you’re not the only one.

Truthfully, I’ve wondered them all myself.

That’s why in this episode, we’re tackling all of those questions - and more.

You’ll learn:

  • How to get - and stay - motivated during a pandemic (or any other crisis)

  • How to even set goals during a pandemic!

  • How to make sure no matter what has happened you are not wasting your time

  • The 4 questions you MUST answer to help you evaluate your goal BEFORE you decide what to do with it

  • What to do when your goal is no longer possible or relevant

  • How to shift a goal in a crisis or a when life throws a curveball (like the coronavirus!)

  • How to stay on track with a goal even when things are changing oh so fast!

  • What to do when you have ALL the goals - and not enough time to focus

  • How you can achieve the most important part of any goal, NO MATTER WHAT!

Yep, you heard that last part right: you can still achieve the MOST important part of your goal, and I stand by that. I will deliver on that promise, so get comfortable and listen in - this episode is a juicy one and I’m pumped to share it with you!

23. On Privilege, Anti-Racism, Allyship, and Where We Go From Here

There is no back to normal. There is no back to business as usual.

There is no un-seeing and unlearning about the injustices against Black people. Indigenous people. People of color.

Once you’ve opened your eyes to the racism that exists in our society, there’s no going back.

That’s where we are today. As I record this in June 2020, we are in the middle of a revolution. The recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd have spurred protests around the US, Canada, and the world in support of Black Lives Matter.

The anti-racism movement is here and there is an overwhelming sense of ALL the emotions. Overwhelm. Hope. Anger. Frustration. Confusion.

Like you, I do not know what the future holds but I know that change IS happening. The world that exists and operates today is different than it was 3 weeks ago. And I freakin’ hope it continues to change and evolve as we learn and take action against racism and police brutality.

This is uncomfortable and unknown for me and THAT in itself is a privilege I no longer take for granted and will continue to work to unpack and fight against.

Am I going to mess up? Yes.

Am I speaking up now just because it’s trendy? No. But I finally got out of my own fear, inaction, and privilege - and I’m truly sorry it took so long.

Am I taking real action? Yes.

This episode is for you if you’re a listener, community member, friend, and you want to know where I stand.

It's for you if you, like me, are evaluating who you listen to, who you follow, who you spend money with to be sure they align with your values.

And it's for you if you are open and curious about what else you can do - I’m sharing a few things you can do to continue to be an ally, and work to systematically change our world so that the opportunities I’ve been given as a white woman are available to ALL people.

My promise to you is this: I’ll go first - I’ll share, mess up, and I’m going to KEEP going.

But I also want you to promise me something: That you will do the work too. That you will learn from Black educators and do YOUR part. Because it’s going to take ALL of us - working together - to bring justice, fairness and equal opportunities for ALL.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • My fears about speaking up 4:15

  • Who this episode is for and my intention behind it 7:40

  • An honest conversation about my imperfections and limitations 9:15

  • Why I’ve added “Learnings and Updates” to show notes 11:10

  • A reminder about why what you do matters and why you have to answer to yourself 13:05

  • Why we’re here today 17:25

  • Some startling statistics about how the deck is stacked in the favour of white people 18:40

  • Why we need to listen to the stories of BIPOC 22:10

  • How to take action 23:35

        • How to take immediate action 24:40

        • Ongoing action you can take in your business 32:30

        • Ongoing action you can take in your personal life 35:05

        • A final note on how I’m taking action 38:00

  • Why I’m being transparent about the action I’m taking 39:25

  • One last note on your goals, dreams, and money 40:55

UPDATES + CONTINUED LEARNING:

June 15th, 2020:

  • Pronounced Rachel Cargle’s name incorrectly twice in the episode.

  • Lesson: In the episode, I used the language “our indigenous people” which can imply ownership. That was not my intention - but impact matters more. I apologize for the implied ownership and commit to not using that expression or language going forward.

22. Why trying to “just survive” is holding you back and keeping you stuck

Today’s episode is about why trying to “just survive” is holding you back, keeping you stuck, unmotivated and unhappy.

Before I get a bunch of hate on this, hear me out.

I'm not saying your situation doesn't suck. I know. Times are tough for a LOT of people. I don’t know your exact situation or circumstances or what’s happening in your life.

But I'm also not a believer that your circumstances dictate your experience, your happiness, or your potential.

You are not your circumstances - you are SO much more powerful than that.

I know things seem tough right now, but I wanted to put together this special, short episode just for you to inspire and lift you up.

Listen in to hear:

- 3 simple ways to shift from "survival" to "sustainment" and even thriving

- A fun, practical way to shift your perspective (besides me just telling you to "change your perspective)

- A simple question you can ask yourself to make TODAY (and any day) better

Here’s the deal: I can’t change your situation, no matter how challenging it feels and difficult it is.  I wish I could… But I can’t.

But I also know this: You don’t need me to. You are stronger than you know, and more powerful than you realize.

I promise you this:  by the end of this episode, you’ll feel inspired, refreshed, and ready to shift OUT of survival mode - into sustainment, thriving, and beyond.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • My disclaimer for this episode 3:30

  • The different kinds of survival mode, and why it’s important to differentiate between them 5:10

  • Why I’m talking about the energy and perspective you bring to your situation (and not just your situation) 7:20

  • Why waiting for something to happen to feel a certain way is an illusion 8:45

  • How to shift from survival to sustainability 11:25

    • Ask yourself what you are getting from survival mode? 11:35

    • Choose a different perspective 14:25

    • Keep it simple 21:00

  • What I want you to remember: you are made for so much more 24:40

  • Stop just surviving and join the free 7 Day Refresh Your Year Challenge 25:00

21. What I wish I knew when I started my business 4 years ago (trust me, knowing these things will save you time, tears, and make you more money!)

Are you someone who hasn't started a business yet but you’ve always wanted to because you know it can help you create multiple income streams and financial freedom?

Or, are you someone who has a business and you’ve been forced to take it online because of COVID-19 and you’re looking to save time and money by learning from my experience?

If either of those sounds like you, this episode is for you.

When I started my business, I was nervous as heck. I had spent years telling myself I wasn't ready and waiting for the “right” time and idea.

At the same time, I was also excited and blissfully confident that people would love me automatically and I'd be a 7-figure business owner in no time.

Little did I know I was about to embark on one of the most challenging, life-altering, and incredible growth journeys of my LIFE.

4 years later, I now realize I had no idea what I was doing - and in some ways, I still don’t.

But holy crapppp have I ever learned a LOT.

Now, there are a LOT of ways to make money online. There are a million ways and strategies and experts to help you out.

I’m not the expert - and this episode is not all about strategy.

But I’ll tell you this - I am the expert in what’s worked for me and what hasn’t - and I know mindset and attitude have a HECK of a lot to do with my success.

I’ve definitely learned a thing or two in the last 4 years of growing a business, and I wanted to put together some of my best tips, mistakes, and advice to help you get started, get going, and scale-up.

In this episode, I'll be sharing what's worked and what hasn't worked for me, what I wish I'd known, and what it takes to be successful. I want to empower you to save time, money, frustration, and tears so you can make more money and have more freedom in your life - whatever that means to you.

Goalden Girl, these are the things I wish I knew 4 years ago. I know you LOVE hearing about my mistakes so feel free to pour yourself a glass of wine, pop the popcorn and listen in. It’s a goodie.

20. The truth about working with kids at home (and we all know it isn’t pretty)

One of the questions I get most often is this: how do I integrate my child into my work?

If you’re a parent you know that kids have this way of keeping you on your toes. At any given moment somebody needs a snack, or a diaper change, or they’ve hurt themselves for the 100th time.

Being a parent is a BIG job. And there’s a reason that they say it takes a village to raise a child.

Unfortunately with COVID-19 most of us can no longer depend on daycare, or grandparents, or even a neighbour to help us out. Most of us have lost our village and are juggling everything alone.

That’s why in today’s bonus episode I’m breaking down EXACTLY how to work from home with kids and giving my best tips and hacks for how I integrate my own kiddo into my work and business.

I’ll be giving you three questions to answer with your partner so you can set yourselves up for success, productivity tips that will make working from home just that much easier, and the unexpected perk of this experience (yes, that’s right, there are perks!)

By the end of this episode you’ll be ready to take control and write the story of your work from home experience instead of drowning in it.

It’s not easy, but you know what? You can do hard things. You can navigate changes and you can figure out the mess. You can rise up to the challenge and create the life that YOU want.

19. How to make working from home work for YOU - tips to get focused, create routines + habits and stay social (and sane)

Working from home sounds like a dream, right?  I remember working in an office and imagining how good it would be to skip the commute and prep time.

But shortly after starting my business, I realized working from home isn’t all rainbows and butterflies.

Whether you’re doing it just because of this particular COVID-19 situation, or transitioning to full-time working from home, or trying to do any of it with kids, here’s what no-one tells you about working from home.

Today, I’m sharing insights that I’ve learned through procrastinating by cleaning my baseboards, not showering for DAYS (but who’s counting?!) and making the most of the work environment I’m in.

You’ll hear how I’ve set up a great work environment, mindset, the tools I use for working remotely and not going crazy in solitude, and even how I work from home - with my kiddo.

18. How to thrive while working from home (even if you’ve never done it, you’re an extravert or distracted AF)

Have you ever wanted to work from home?  Well, for many of us, that dream has certainly come true. And chances are, it looks different than you thought it would).

More than ever right now, as we come together in community to stop the spread of Covid-19, OH SO many of us are working from home.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, solopreneur, corporate employee, or corporate leader -- and any of those things and suddenly trying to work from home with your kids, chances are you’re realizing there’s a steep learning curve involved.

While the idea of no commute (and no pants) seems tempting for many, as someone who has worked from home, let me give you this gift of learning from others’ mistakes -- and the things that have worked.

To support you and save you that STEEP learning curve, I’ve put together two special podcast episodes for you all about working from home.  This is the first - stay tuned for episode 19 next week, where I share my experience and more tips about working from home with kids and your partner.

In today’s episode, I’m talking to Tatiana Correa, who’s in charge of the Global Talent Experience for Shopify’s employees around the world. She’s helped build community and teams who are remote in different countries and different time zones… PLUS, she’s worked from home herself and learned a thing or two.

Even though I’ve worked from home for the last few years, I STILL learned a ton from Tatiana.

And it was especially valuable hearing how her team - which works remotely all the time - is finding new ways to thrive in our current, social distancing reality.

Whether you’re new to working from home and still adjusting, an introvert who’s loving this and incredibly productive already, or an extrovert who’s struggling figuring out how to make it work, this is for you.

If you’re a parent - a mom or a dad - who is trying to figure out HOW to work from home with kids also at home, or an entrepreneur leading a remote team, or a corporate leader now trying to lead a remote team, this is for you.

In this episode, you’ll hear tips and tools to help you adjust to and be productive working remotely from home.  We’ll give you ideas to be successful, some of the must-haves, and ideas on how to make your home office work for you, even if the kids are at home.

I promise you this - Even during this time of challenge, you’re going to learn some real takeaways, sprinkled with positivity, hope, and some laughs.

You’ll be ready to be more productive, find a routine that works for you and even includes showering - which if you’ve never worked from home - you’ll find out it’s harder than you think...… and maybe even keep your kid off the conference call - while working from home.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • The thing Tatiana loves about working from home: 03:55

  • Benefits people MAY NOT know about working remotely: 04:29

17. When life throws you curveballs: how to overcome obstacles, dance in the rain, and thrive through adversity

Life’s thrown (more than) a few curveballs so far this year. How’s THAT for an understatement:

Let me start with saying this - I drafted my notes for this a few days ago… and it’s safe to say the world has changed for many of us - myself included - since I first made my notes. And it’s going to continue to change.

This year has been a RIDE!!

We can’t always make sense of what comes our way, but I do know this:  life WILL surprise you. There will be obstacles to overcome. Each and every one of us will face adversity along our journey - whether it’s related to our goals or not.

But here’s the thing: this isn’t just an episode about  Coronavirus or COVID-19 - I want it to be something you can come back to - anytime life throws us curveballs. Because it will.

I wish I could promise you that those things won’t happen - but I can’t. There will be obstacles.

But what I can promise you is this:  that you’re the only one. And there are some things that have helped me face adversity, that I will share in hopes it will help you too.

In this episode, you’ll hear the behind-the-scenes of my life (in case you’re curious), what has helped me in the last few months.. I’m also going to talk about a tricky question - one I asked myself too:  How to know if a curveball is a challenge to overcome…. Or if life is guiding you in a different direction (aka a blessing in disguise)?

Here’s what’s helped as I’ve been learning to catch the curveballs, dance in the rain, and thrive in the chaos (with timestamps):

  • What to do you are not ok: are going through something traumatic, and truly struggling, please get help. (See links below). 5:00

  • A few behind-the-scenes stories of what we’re been going through this year. 8:15

  • The not-so-scientific process I’ve discovered to bounce back from obstacles quicker. 9:15

    • Start with you: Take care of yourself - 10:00

      • Feel your feelings. Let yourself be angry, scared, disappointed, nervous, anxious.

      • Check in with your partner often (kids, colleagues, team-members and other family too!)

      • Assess: what do you need right now? What do you want to feel? Take care of yourself

      • Find what is good, and what you can be grateful for

      • Make a list of what you can and can’t control

      • Remember: you are a LEADER

      • Limit and use media consciously

    • Realign, reassess and take inspired action 20:45

      • Decide how you want to feel

      • Decide what you truly want and what’s most important

      • Take action from that place

    • Explore the lessons 23:20

      • What is this here to teach you? How do you want to show up in this experience? How will this make you more of who you’re meant to be?

    • Find a purpose, spread joy and positivity. 27:00

      • You. Can. Make. A. Difference.

    • Remember: 30:00

      • This too shall pass

      • It’s a process - some steps forward, some steps backwards

      • What matters most: you build resiliency and your bounce-back-ability (ala Emily Williams!)

  • How to know if a challenge is something to overcome, or a blessing in disguise? 31:50

  • A simple, easy way to ground yourself, and look at the bigger picture: 36:05

14. So you didn't achieve your goal? Here's what to do when you don't reach your dreams

The end of the year is here. Did you achieve your goal?

If you did, HIGH FIVE to you!

But chances are you’re one of the 99% of people who didn’t achieve their goal.

Welcome to the club (one I belong to, also!).

Didn’t reach your goal? Missed the mark on your dream?

If you didn’t achieve your goal, chances are, you’re feeling disappointed.  Maybe you’re embarrassed.

Maybe you’re exhausted, or ready to give up.

If you didn’t achieve your goal, how do you deal? And should you just give up?

Spoiler alert: It’s a HARD NO on that one.

Instead, right now, it’s a chance to reflect, reassess, recharge, CELEBRATE and revitalize.

By the end of this episode, you’ll go from feeling disappointed and maybe embarrassed about your goals, to celebrating how far you HAVE come.

You’ll get clarity on why you didn’t achieve your goal, and understand the most important question to ask yourself:  Do you STILL WANT this goal?

Goalden Girl, the biggest thing I can promise to you is this:  You’ll let go of the guilt, the shame… and the pressure.

You’ll be refreshed, and optimistic about what the new year holds for you:  whether it’s a new goal, a jump-start on the old goal, or a reset all-together.

13. Values: How to Know, Uncover and Use YOURS to Get Your Goals

Do you ever struggle to prioritize or make decisions?

Or do you ever feel yourself being pulled in two (or even three) different directions?

Yeah. Me too.

But did you know that knowing - and using - your values can help you in every day situations?

Knowing your values can help you make decisions, prioritize and live life happier, every day.

The truth is that in every moment, we are making choices.

Choices of spending more time working, or with family.

Or taking an exotic or relaxing vacation… or visiting relatives (even though we know that often is anything but relaxing or a “vacation”).

Knowing your values makes these types of trade offs easier to make and will allow you to make them with confidence.

In this episode, we’re doing some deep exploration on your values. This is an excerpt from our year-round goal-getting program called Goalden Girls Community and I’m so excited to share it with you.

Be warned: this isn’t your typical “circle your values” exercise. This is one that actually works and helps you ditch all of those darn “shoulds” so you can get down to what you TRULY value!

Get ready to learn:

    1. Strategies for determining what your values are, why they are important and how they can help you in goal setting and life in general

    2. What to do when you have two (or more) competing values

    3. How to use your values to make decisions for setting goals and to live your best life

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

5:09 - What are values

6:12 - How values can be helpful

12:38 - How can you uncover your values (Overview of the 3 part Values worksheet)

13:29 - Part 1: The Honest Answers

14:10 - Part 2: Spot the Patterns/themes

15:41 - Part 3: Draft and Declare your values.

16:46 - Done is better than perfect

18:57 - How to make your values visible

19:50 - 3 tips on how to use your values

22:16 - Competing values

25:11 - Action steps (print worksheet, draft and declare your values, share your values)

Here’s my promise to you: by the end of this episode, you’ll understand what true values are, how true values can help in goal setting and life in general, determine your own true values, identify competing values, and learn how to use your values to make the right decisions for you.

The Honest Questions (To ask yourself to uncover your values):

  • Describe a time you felt the MOST alive. What were you doing? Who were you around?

  • Describe yourself in 3 word?

  • 3 favourite books + movies and why?

  • What drives you insane!?!

  • 3 people you respect + admire and why?

  • What do you spend your money on?

  • What’s in your calendar for this next month?

  • What’s the best vacation you’ve ever had?

10. Why growing your social media following, list or audience isn't the answer to growing your business

Be honest: are you an entrepreneur who has no idea what you’re doing?

Are you working SO hard and still not making enough money?

Or maybe you’ve had some success but you’re overwhelmed by all the things and not sure how and where to start with growing your business (or just going on a vacation).

Have you ever caught yourself saying “I just need more followers” or “I need a bigger audience” before I can grow my business?

Yes, yes and YES.

I’m just as guilty as you, which is why I brought in business coach Lindsay Johnson (aka The Radical Connector) to get us aligned and into effective action… fast!

Today’s episode is all about why you DON’T need a bigger following to grow your business and how to stop feeling lost and overwhelmed.

Lindsay shares with us what to focus on to make real money in your business today so you can work less and earn way more, doing what you love (sounds awesome, right?!).

With over 20 years of business development experience (yes, she was growing businesses before Instagram, Facebook and even Youtube!), Lindsay Johnson is a business coach for first-time entrepreneurs.

By the end of this episode, you’ll learn:

  • The biggest mistakes new entrepreneurs make and how to avoid them

  • Why it feels like you’re working SO hard and still not seeing the results you want (aka, the money!)

  • How long it takes to actually grow a business (Hint: it’s not what the Facebook ads are telling you!)

  • Why this business coach says a business plan isn’t the end-all, be-all

  • How imposter syndrome limits an entrepreneur’s success and what to do instead

  • The bright side of imposter syndrome (yup, there is one!)

  • Why having more followers, a bigger list and a bigger audience are NOT what new entrepreneurs should focus on

  • The things you can do (RGAs) to actually make money in your business, no matter how new it is (or how long it’s been)

  • How long it actually takes to grow a business, and the secret behind the success of entrepreneurs like Amy Porterfield, Brendon Burchard, Rachel Hollis and more

  • What Lindsay would do if she was building her business from scratch in 2020

  • Tips to help you grow your business when it’s a side-hustle and you already have a job/family/life/#allthethings

Most of all, you’ll give yourself a break because building a business can be DAMN hard - and we’re here to support you in this journey.

Listen in and take a big sigh of relief because it’s not you… it’s what you’re doing.

And that’s all about to change.

So many new entrepreneurs actually have no idea what they’re doing… so they focus on what’s sexy:  social media.

There’s so much pressure to have more followers, more likes, and more “engagement”.

New entrepreneurs also sometimes avoid doing the hard things and get caught up in “busywork” like updating their website, learning to use Quickbooks or networking at ALL the events.

But is that actually what grows businesses?

Lindsay says “No” and she’s here to tell you you can grow your business starting today, whether you have 10 followers or 100,000.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • The biggest mistakes new entrepreneurs make and how to avoid them: 4:45

  • Why it feels like you’re working SO hard and still not seeing the results you want (aka, the money!): 7:45
