Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #89 - The Power of the Pause: Finding Clarity, Avoiding Burnout and Reaching Your Potential with Emily Williams

Hustle culture is real.

There’s so much pressure on us to do all the things.

Do it now.

Have the big to-do list and CRUSH it, day in and day out.

If you’re ambitious, you can probably relate to this. Not only does our culture teach us to work soo dang hard, but it also validates us for working hard.

Today’s guest is someone who takes a lot of action - and helps others do the same.

Emily Williams is a success coach, author, podcast host and CEO who, at one point, couldn’t get a job at Starbucks.

After experiencing a quarter-life crisis, she moved from Ohio to London (where she knew no one!) and in 2014 launched her company, I Heart My Life. She made $442 in her first month—and then went on to hit six figures in six months, before her 30th birthday. She grew her business into seven figures in under 18 months.

Today, she works with ambitious, heart-centered women all over the world in helping them bust through the obstacles that hold their dreams and goals hostage so they can free themselves to create a life that's better than their dreams through the company's membership, courses and retreats. She also personally coaches entrepreneurs to help them scale their businesses (and their lives!) to new heights.

While Emily’s accomplishments are impressive - she’s been featured in FORBES, INC. SUCCESS, Money, Entrepreneur, Business Insider and so much more — today’s episode is about the exact opposite:

It’s about slowing down, listening to your intuition, social media addiction, getting comfortable with pausing, quitting the things you need to quit, and putting a STOP on doing just for the sake of doing.

THE TRUTH IS THIS:

Ambition can sometimes go too far and leave us burned out.  LOTS of women are burned out right now

  • The world has changed in the last few years, and so have we. Inevitably, our careers, businesses and the services we need are going to adapt to this too.

  • Taking a break is hard: financially, mentally - logically. So what’s a woman who’s doing ALL The things to do? How ever do we pause… or — QUIT?!

In this episode, you’re going to hear this and so much more. You’ll:

  • Hear about Emily’s decision to put a pause on two MAJOR things in her business - Instagram and her Podcast

  • Learn about the fears that came up from Emily. Fears you’ll probably relate to like “will people forget about me? Will my business make it? Does this make me a quitter?” and hear how Emily has - and continues to - navigate them

  • Understand how to balance pace with patience: our desires and ambitions, with the very real need to take a break so that we don’t burn out

  • Get ideas and advice for how to strengthen your intuition and your trust of yourself

  • See new ways and potential opportunities for where you might need to pause - or *gasp* quit - and hear HOW you can actually do this (especially when there’s often - what feels like and can be - real constraints in life and business)

  • Be inspired on how you can also get quiet and build in some breathing room to get clarity, make sure you’re on the right path, and taking ALIGNED action that leads you to your desires … instead of burnout

By the end of this episode, you’ll believe that sometimes a pause - and quitting - is actually necessary. You’ll hear some POWERFUL insights that will remind you of how to listen to yourself, and stop yourself from burning out.

You’ll gain practical advice to navigate a pause or a quit of your own, and feel confident and courageous to determine where in your life - taking a pause or quitting - may actually be the next best step in service of your vision, your desires, your dreams and your goals.

And after we say goodbye to Emily, keep listening - I have a few pauses and quits of my own to share, from Emily’s inspiration - that I hope will inspire you to.

Get comfortable, get ready - and for goodness sake, put away that to-do list. - we’re talking about how to know when to pause or quit and how to balance it with taking action.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • Fears and practicalities that come up when deciding(16:06)

  • How to strengthen your intuition and your trust of yourself ( 19:02)

  • How to balance pace with patience: our desires and ambitions (22:57)

  • How you can get quiet and build in some breathing room (34:39)

  • Rapid Fire Question (36:43)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #88 - From Hot Showers to Cold Plunges: How to Fall in Love with, and Create a Cold Routine that Works For You (and Embrace Your Inner Strength in the Process)

I've heard it countless times: "I really want to try a cold plunge, but where do I even begin?”

I get you. The struggle is real.

“How long should I endure the icy water?”

“Where is the best place to take the plunge?”

“How often should I commit myself to this chilly adventure?”

It's a whirlwind of uncertainties, a maze of HOWs.

Now, I don't know about you but being cold wasn’t exactly my cup of tea.

In fact, I still am the kind of person who loves my showers scorching hot.

But here's the twist: despite my obsession for all things warm and cozy, I've discovered a deep love for cold plunges.

Yes, you read that right!

Me, the hot shower connoisseur, the sun-soaking enthusiast, the cozy tea drinker, have fallen head over heels for the world of cold exposure therapy, and you can too!

Before we dive into the wonderful world of cold plunging, I just wanted to give you a friendly heads-up.

While I’m super excited to share all the cool (pun intended) benefits of this invigorating practice, it’s crucial to remember that I am not a medical professional, nor do I know your specific body, health, history, circumstances… everything unique to you.

So, here’s the deal: before you take the plunge (literally), I strongly encourage you to consult with a healthcare provider or a qualified professional. They’ll be able to give you personalized advice based on your unique circumstances.

Remember, what works for one person may not work for another, and there might be underlying health conditions or concerns that need to be taken into account. So, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!

You might be thinking: why would anyone willingly go in an ice bath? Well, the benefits are amazing so let’s talk about few of benefits of cold plunging:

Here’s my best benefits and why I do it:

● Mental clarity - this is a really big one

○ It awakens your senses and clears your mind. Think of how good it feels in the morning to splash cold water on your face— it does the same to your whole body.

○ The shock of cold triggers a release of endorphins, which are the feel-good hormones and it can boost your mood and leave you feeling invigorated and alive.

○ There’s also science to back this up - studies have shown that cold exposure stimulates the production of norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate attention, focus, and mood. It’s like a natural mood enhancer, giving you that extra mental edge and a sense of clarity.

● Mental strength

○ One of my friends told me - this is the hardest thing I will do this week - if I can do this, I can do anything. I’ve adopted this and it really helps. It proves how strong I am.

○ It has been a HUGE confidence booster for me.

● Coaching:

○ I obviously believe in coaching, but it doesn’t always take another person to be your coach. Your life partner can be your coach, kids are certainly coaches, Money can be your coach and the cold can be your coach.

■ I use the cold as a chance to quiet, and listen to what my mind says, often unconsciously. It helps me understand what my “stopping’ patterns are.

● Energy

○ Yes I know this sounds counter to the peace and calm – but somehow, I also do find cold plunging to be invigorating and give me energy.

● Immune system boost

○ There’s a lot of research to support that cold plunging has a positive influence on the immune system.

When you expose your body to cold temperatures, it triggers a series of physiological responses that can strengthen your immune response. It’s like giving your immune system a turbo boost!

○ Research has indicated that cold exposure can increase the number of white blood cells in your body, particularly the ones responsible for fighting off infections and pathogens. These mighty warriors of the immune system are called lymphocytes and they play a crucial role in keeping you healthy and resilient.

○ Cold plunging also activates the production of certain proteins and cytokines that help regulate immune responses. These proteins can enhance your body’s ability to defend against harmful invaders, making your immune system a force to be reckoned with.

● Some other physical benefits to cold plunging:

● The cold water stimulates blood circulation, causing your blood vessels to constrict and then dilate. This process can help improve circulation throughout your body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your muscles and organs more efficiently. It’s like a little internal massage for your circulatory system!

● [Additional Physical Benefits] Cold plunging has also been linked to reduced inflammation and faster muscle recovery. That means if you’ve been hitting the gym or engaging in intense physical activities, taking the plunge can aid in reducing those pesky muscle aches and pains.

● Beauty - which you may not have expected:

○ Cold plunging can make your skin calmer.

■ When you immerse yourself in cold water, your blood vessels constrict, which can help reduce inflammation and puffiness. It’s like a refreshing wake-up call for your skin, leaving it looking toned and rejuvenated.

■ Additionally, the cold water exposure can stimulate blood circulation to the skin, delivering oxygen and vital nutrients. This increased blood flow can contribute to a healthier complexion, promoting a natural glow and helping to combat dullness.

○ AND HAIR -

■ Cold plunging can also work wonders for your locks. The cold water can help tighten hair cuticles, making your strands appear smoother and shinier. Say goodbye to frizz and hello to lustrous, healthy-looking hair.

■ Cold plunging has even been associated with promoting hair growth. The cold water stimulates blood flow to the scalp, providing nourishment to the hair follicles and potentially aiding in hair growth.

My best tips:

1. Feel the benefits of it — and let that inspire and get you excited to do more of it

● Start when you’re already hot

● In my humble opinion, Summer is PERFECT!! Start hot to make it easier:

■ Post-workout,

■ Hot-tub

■ Sauna

■ Hot day

● Dive into a lake. Have a cold shower on a hot day. Have a cold shower after a workout, hot-tub, sauna. You get the idea. Do it when your body is CRAVING the cold. Then, afterwards, see how you feel.

● Make it pleasurable - there are a lot of spas that now offer this experience, often with a hot-tub/sauna combo.

● We can’t always go to the spa every time, but you can go to your local pool.

● To feel the benefits, you need to PAUSE afterwards.

● This is why I think the spa is a great way to start, but honestly, I do this at home!! Have a hot bath, then light a lovely candle. Turn on music you love, Get a cozy blanket, read a book or journal. Meditate or just sit there or just LAY There. LUXURIATE in the feeling.

Your body will feel SOOO DANG GOOD!!!!

2. Start small: Start with less time, and build up.

● Just end on cold – end on a cold shower: Start with 15 seconds, then 30 seconds.

1. Consider doing it with friends. Peer Pressure can also be Peer Inspiration :) Find a local cold plunge group, go on Eventbrite or Meetup — or create one yourself!!!

2. Take a course — I did a Wim Hof course, and it was fantastic. They do them all over the world. I started with the half day one. My goal one day is to do a full retreat WITH Wim How.

3. Stay consistent. Aim to do it every day after your shower, or 5 days a week.

4. Get a cold plunge buddy – and accountability in the process

● Spouse, partner, kids, neighbour, friend, mentor, coach, colleagues –

● Plus the research on accountability is astronomical in terms of it’s power to create a habit and reach goals quicker and easier.

Where I cold plunge:

● I have a horse trough on my patio

● In the summer, I use my daughter’s kiddie pool - the water coming out of the hose is COLD!!

● The ocean — I’m so grateful to live here. It’s amazing. I will go with friends, or do events. Or go alone. It’s magic to be outside.

● Shower or Fill the bathtub - don’t do this often, but have a little.

● Spa experiences - this is obviously a treat, and I can’t do this all the time.

● In Vancouver, Floathouse does cold plunges.

● There’s also a few other secret spas - but they get expensive

● The Art of Sauna in burnaby is a sauna house - as the title might suggest, but they have cold showers to use in between and that’s realy fantastic!!!

I LOVE cold plunge events - doing it in a group is awesome. I go to some by “The Cold Plunge Crew” in Vancouver, and also things like the Polar Bear Swim. Sure the Polar Bear Swim isn’t the most grounded or conscious but it’s also fun and there’s something powerful about doing it with a group - and feeling that energy.

How to create your own cold plunge routine:

Let me tell you a little about what my cold plunge routine looks like – and know that it does change over time. I don’t think it’s about having the PERFECT routine, I think it’s about figuring out what works for you. And you’ll hear mine changes a bit in the seasons.

● I usually start with 3 rounds of breathwork. I do this BEFORE I get in the tub - not in the tub

● How long do I stay in is a question that comes up a lot: It depends:

○ Minimum 2 minutes

○ Usually 3-6 minutes

○ Sometimes 10+

● I breathe, go in, and then for me, the best part is the after effects

● In my Wim Hof course, I learned about horse stance. Again, not a doctor, but if you’re really cold, you don’t want to RUN to warm up. Instead, you get in a wide squat, and bend your knees and move your arms slowly. This helps get blood flow going, but not too fast. You can find a video here

● I’m actually a little more consistent in the winter which is funny considering the topic of this episode. But I think in the winter I really need the mental boost, and the push to be outside in nature.

○ I have a cold plunge tub on my patio – I will go in it a few times a week, and often do the ocean as well. The patio is great because I can start in the hot tub and then dip cold, although I don’t always do that.

○ Another reason summer is trickier - my condo is on the top floor and the water doesn’t always get that cold in the summer, plus the plunge pool warms up fast.

● If someone in the house - usually my daughter - is sick, I will make sure I’m extra consistent on this routine. I might stay in longer, depending on how my body is talking to me.

● If I’m close to my period or first day or two, I usually skip it, as I’m working on being gentler on my body during those times

● Timing is something that’s really interesting about cold plunging too.

○ I’ve found it to be equally effective in the morning and the evening.

○ It’s one of the FEW Things that I find great for both invigorating and energizing me in the morning, AND helping me get deep, and better sleep.

○ I don’t know the science of this. But I definitely feel that in the morning, it’s a great way to start the day.

○ I also have done cold showers or dips before bed, and it works REALLY well for me.

○ I fall asleep easily, and end up feeling more refreshed in the morning. My Oura ring also confirms this as well.

Those are the basic notes.

Now, let me tell you about my ultimate up-level when it comes to the cold – My

Home Cold Spa Ritual :)

● Home spa ritual:

○ I will do a home-spa ritual sometimes once or twice a week, it depends, when Troy is away:

○ Start with 20-30 minute bath, Light candles, do music, then have a cold shower.

○ Put on fluffy bathrobe, and let myself relax

○ Turn on music, drink tea, read, journal and RELAX – 15 minutes

○ REPEAT 2-3 times… sooo good :)

○ The positive reinforcement of this reminds me of how good it feels, and allows me to create this positive habit

So to create your own routine? Feel free to borrow anything I’ve shared with you – or leave it.

My advice really is the same as to form any new habit:

● Start small -bite-sized – aka 10-15 seconds

● Make it easy - when you’re already hot

● Make it enjoyable – hellooo at home spa days

Do it often so you feel the benefits and create a positive feedback loop.

Whether you do a 2 minute shower, or put a plunge on your patio with ice, or go to the ocean daily, or meet up with friends weekly to do it, find, experiment, play and CREATE a routine that works for you :)

Cold plunging really has changed my life. I feel BRAVER, more confident, healthier, more POWERFUL and I’ve had a ton of fun and met cool people in the process.

My intention with this episode is to touch on the science bits, and the benefits…

But also, to speak to you on a personal level, and give you a FEMININE perspective.

And to tie it to something deeper than just the outer benefits… to tie it to your goals, to your dreams, and to who you ARE as a human being.

All while keeping it simple and digestible enough so you can integrate it easily in your full, busy and amazing life.

I want you to experience all the joys and benefits that come with cold plunging, that’s why I am sharing Episode 88 of Goalden Girls Podcast with you!

In this episode, you’re going to hear about:

● What it is about cold plunges that keeps me coming back

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #87 - Collaborations, Community-Building, Consciousness and Fine-Tuning Business and Life with Jenna Herbut

Whether you’re a professional, parent, entrepreneur, or hey, even living that passive-income lifestyle, I’ll tell you the truth:

Every woman - honestly, almost every human - I talk to is facing some common experiences.

We’re working on prioritizing joy and self-care.

We’re navigating success and cultivating resiliency in the face of adversity, challenges and failure.

We’re balancing personal, family, and professional responsibilities.

And we’re deeply yearning for community, connection, collaboration… and whether we all have the language or awareness yet or not…. We’re working towards being grounded, present, and conscious.

Today’s conversation touches all of those topics and so much more.. And I’m honoured to be joined by Jenna Herbut an entrepreneur, visionary, author and creative powerhouse to talk all about this… and so much more.

Let me tell you a little more about Jenna:

Jenna has a passion for empowering artists and fostering conscious entrepreneurship and has made a significant impact through her ventures, including the Make It Show and Conscious Lab.

As the founder of Make It Show, Jenna created a dynamic platform for emerging artists to showcase their work and connect with a diverse audience. What began as a small-scale event has evolved into one of Canada's largest and most influential craft and art markets. Chances are, you’ve been to one, sold your products at one, or been gifted gifts that came from the signature MAKEES at the Make it Show.

Through Make It Show, Jenna has provided countless artists with a springboard to success, enabling them to turn their creative passions into thriving businesses.

Jenna's dedication to conscious entrepreneurship led her to establish Conscious Lab, an initiative that supports and nurtures socially responsible businesses in Vancouver. Conscious Lab serves as a hub for aspiring entrepreneurs, providing resources, mentorship, and a supportive community to create ventures that prioritize sustainability and positive social impact. Jenna's work through Conscious Lab has inspired a new generation of entrepreneurs to build businesses that make a difference in the world.

Beyond her entrepreneurial pursuits, Jenna is an accomplished author and sought-after speaker. Her book, "Make It Happen," offers practical guidance and strategies for artists looking to transform their creative passions into successful businesses. As a speaker, Jenna captivates audiences with her insights on creative entrepreneurship, conscious living, and the intersection of art and commerce.

Let me also say this:

She’s also a dear friend, and a TRUE connector and collaborator in every sense of the word.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Jenna’s 10+ year journey of entrepreneurship

  • How Jenna pivoted in the last few years as both an event host, and live event space owner – and what she learned in this that she wishes ALL entrepreneurs knew

  • What she wishes she knew before she became both a mom and entrepreneur

  • If it gets easier when you hit the success markers in business

  • Jenna’s philosophy that life actually gets HARDER sometimes when you’ve achieved your goals – this is a MUST listen

  • The difference between a visionary and a doer and why it’s different

  • How unlearning what Jenna learned in business school and overcoming conditioning has been key to her success: and how it can help you define and reach success on YOUR terms too.

Oh, and by the way, if you’ve got little ears, there is an F=Bomb dropped later in the episode, so be mindful of who’s listening alongside you.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • Jenna’s 10+ year journey of entrepreneurship (6:39)

  • What Jenna wishes she knew before she became both a mom and entrepreneur (34:53)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #86 - Style for the Ambitious Woman: Dressing the Inside and Out for Joy, Well-Being, and Success with Tamara Mainardi

Last year, around this time, when things in Canada started to re-open, I found myself looking around at what other people were wearing, and felt like a FISH out of water.

First of all, going to the beach, left me with one SERIOUS question – why was there no fabric on the bottom of bathing suits?! No seriously, I’m not that old, but in my day, we didn’t wear thongs to the beach, but my - “what I thought were slightly risque bikini bottoms - made me look like a grandma on Kit Beach.

It turns out somewhere in the last few years, we’ve gone from bikini bottoms to thong bottoms. And no-one sent me the memo.

At the stores, it was clear styles had changed. High waists?  Bell bottoms? Rips are back? Crop tops?! WHAT is going on. I don’t know if it’s just me but I think all of us millennials are looking around wishing we’d kept onto our 90’s clothes because apparently it’s back.

Sometimes it feels like there’s a secret club that knows the trends, and I clearly am not on the email list.

Staying up to date on fashion feels like a second job, and it’s hard to know how and where to stay up-to-date on trends and we wind up feeling lost.

There’s also a lot of “rules” when it comes to fashion; some legit, some not.

Some are tried-and-true, but most are rooted in one person’s opinion, or even toxic messaging around what our bodies “can and can’t” or “should and shouldn’t” wear.

Let’s also mention barriers to fashion: it can be expensive, and as someone who values sustainability, the fast-fashion industry is something I work really hard to stay away from.

It’s also time-consuming: we’re busy, I know we’re all busy, and I don’t enjoy shopping that much in the first place and dragging a 5 year old along makes it THAT much worse.

SO, it just doesn’t get to happen very often and maybe you can relate to the way I feel which is a desire and need to make the most out of the clothes you DO have and finding ways to feel stylish and confident in a way that’s efficient and works for YOU!!!.

Fashion and style also can be seen as superficial, as something that’s optional, or “froo-froo” and not taken seriously.

In fact, I myself have felt these sentiments and had these thoughts before. May you have too.

But here’s the thing I’ve realized:  our confidence makes a MASSIVE difference in how we feel, and how we FEEL ends up hugely impacting and guiding how we show up in the world, and ultimately what we’re able to do, achieve, create, experience and how we live our lives.

And fashion and personal style? They play a really big role in this.

That’s why I’m so excited to be joined today by Tamara Mainardi, a Style Curator, which if you’re out of the loop like me, means a Personal Stylist - to talk about the DEEPER meaning of fashion, style and how we can feel confident in our clothes and take it to the rest of our lives including our goals 🙂

What I love about Tamara is that she really has changed my mind about style, and in this episode, you’re going to hear that style can actually be healing, that trends are NOT the end-all-be-all, and how to be proud of who you are and how you show up: and reflect it in what you wear.

This episode is actually really beautiful and vulnerable, and not just a bunch of fashion do’s and don’t’s.

That being said, Tamara drops awesome tips and strategies for you to feel confident in your closet, in what you wear and have feel ready to FUN with your clothes.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • About Tamara’s mental breakdown and how it led to her rediscovery of personal style and above all, happiness, confidence and joy

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #85 - Why Collaborations are the Fastest Way to Experience Growth in your Business and Life with Danielle Wiebe from Business Babes Collective

When it comes to business, and frankly, all types of success, our culture seems to be SO focused on doing it fast.

Get rich quick. Get 10,000 followers fast, $10k months NOW. Build and scale QUICKLY!!

Those are the messages we all get sent multiple times a day, and of course, because of that, it’s NO WONDER we often feel like things are happening slowly, or we feel like we should be doing more, or feel like we’re falling behind.

I know a LOT of us feel this pressure to do more, be more, do it faster, in fact why not do it yesterday.

I ALSO know that a lot of us feel lonely and isolated. And we look around wondering why we aren’t “more successful” - no matter what the definition of success is.

There’s a beautiful African proverb that I believe describes what need to shift:

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Today’s episode is about going far - together.

In our hyper-individualized society, we’re doing it without villages, support networks, and close knit family and friends. This episode is about changing that: doing it differently and going TOGETHER.

Today’s guest is the incredible Danielle Wiebe.  Danielle is a community builder, collaboration expert, business strategist and the founder of Business Babes Collective, a global community for female entrepreneurs.

With over 11 years of entrepreneurial experience in multiple different industries, (Including Sales for High-End Electronics, Health & Wellness, Weddings, Conferences & Digitial Marketing), Danielle loves teaching women to create strategic and profitable collaborations, as well as building a strong foundation and systems to be able to scale their businesses without having to work around the clock.

2020 Turned Danielle’s Business upside down. The main source of income for the business (Events) was GONE overnight Danielle was forced to do a massive pivot online (at the same time she also found out she was pregnant and was dealing with major burnout!) Within the last 3 years, Danielle has pivoted her entire business online and has been able to replace the lost income and scale the online community which now reaches thousands of women around the world through her social media channels, e-mail list and podcast!

By the end of this episode, you’ll:

  • Understand what stops people from collaborating and be able to recognize it - and move past it for yourself

  • Hear why the old school mindset of needing to “crush our competition” is rooted in scarcity and learn a new way to look at your competition that sets you apart and up for success

  • See what’s possible because of collaborations - and feel open to the possibilities and way it can change your life and business

  • Understand how you can get started, even if you’re new, not sure what value you have to offer or how to get over the dreaded imposter syndrome of “I don’t know enough, I have nothing to offer, I dont’ have enough followers”.. Etc

  • Learn examples and lessons from both super successful collaborations.. And disastrous ones…

  • Walk away with powerful tips on collaboration including what kind of research to do, how to track your contacts, how to build genuine relationships, how to pitch and all the steps to make it happen

  • Be inspired by stories of “BIG” name collaborations, of which Danielle has done MANY

  • Feel confident and comfortable hearing “no” and learn how to reframe rejection to feel EXCITED to get more “no’s”

You’ll:

  • Understand that community isn't just something that is "Nice to Have" - It's essential.

  • Have Awareness That Collaborations are one of the fastest way to scale your business and reach your goals.

This is all about showing you that there’s a different way to grow a business – and opening your mind to the idea that consistent collaborations and working collectively is a great way to grow your business (versus just trying to go viral and leaving it up to chance)

By the end of this episode, you’ll look at your Competition as your biggest collaborative partners and allies, and know where to start.

You’ll Feel:

  • Excited, inspired, nerve-cited to try it, open to all the possibilities that can change your business and life.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • How to re-frame the fear of rejection ( 17:24)

  • The best way to view your competitors (26:41)

  • Tips on Collaboration (42:59)

  • Rapid Fire Question (1:36:49)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #83 - Clear the Baggage from the Path and Step into Your Visionary, Purpose-Drive Reality with The Journeymen Collective

Look, I don’t know about you, but I know YOU and I have been put on this planet to do a lot more than just eat, sleep, work, pay bills, do some laundry, and then die.

And yet - when you look around, it seems like most people are doing just that:  going through the motions, doing all the to-do’s without truly living with deep satisfaction, reverence or joy.

On some level, I believe most of us can feel it: we can FEEL the fact that most people on this planet are disconnected from their true selves, their purpose, and in many ways, just walking the prescribed path that society has set out for us.

Chances are, you’re here  - you’ve been guided in some way here - because you sense that there’s a disconnection .

You sense that you’re missing a piece of fulfillment in your life and that there has to be more to your existence, more to what you’re doing here than just doing for the sake of doing, and endless productivity without the inspiration and motivation that comes from alignment.

If this is you, you’re in the right place.

Without getting TOOOOO depressing right from the top of this episode, let me tell you this: I believe there’s a world of possibility out there for each and every one of us, and I know today’s guests feel it too.

Here’s what I see in the world around me, in clients that I work with., and in myself in certain seasons which is why this work is so important:

Many people are living without purpose.

It’s no secret that we’re not given the tools on how to process energy and the emotions of life and so we carry it with us or express it in ways that aren’t healthy or supportive of the life we want or the people we want to be.

So often, I see people hit certain success markers, hit their goals… and then there’s a silence: and in the silence comes a question: “is this it?”  We can become so focused on the to-do’s that we forget WHY we started in the first place.

We’ve forgotten how to be in JOY. We’ve forgotten how to feel the full range and spectrum of emotions.

And in many cases, we’ve set goals that don’t truly matter to the core of us, and so when we achieve them, it feels empty.

We get stuck in conditional living;  this constant negotiation with the world, the universe, ourselves: of “If I do this, then I get that.”   But it doesn’t work like that, and ultimately, life can feel like groundhog day where we keep doing the same thing over and over, until we realize enough is enough.

All this being said; It’s no surprise that we are in a mental health crisis:

  • While taboo is dropping (which I think has some real benefits to it), we keep focusing on the gap instead of the gain

  • We keep focusing on the fact that people have depression and anxiety - and normalized it – while paying almost no attention on how we heal and how to move people out of it.

What we’re also not talking about enough?

The beautiful, magic human potentiality that’s within us all, within YOU, waiting to be unmasked, and brought back to the light .

If your soul is nodding along because you feel this, know this on some level, you’re in for a treat.

In today’s episode, I’m honoured to be joined by Robert Grover and Gary Logan, two MASTER Spiritual Advisors and Human Potential Experts. Together, they are The Journeymen Collective.

Robert and Gary are all about supporting humans to get to a place where they never again have to ask “Is this all there is”, and Stop looking for the next level to get deeper satisfaction – the new job, the bigger home, new partner the next income level, to feel satisfied.

In this episode, you’re going to hear about HOW Robert and Gary do this, and you’ll learn tools and ideas for how you can learn to listen to yourself.

This is a deeply spiritual and personal conversation - one that can’t be distilled down into the typical:  In this episode, you’ll learn points A, B and C.

Even though we will be talking about tools and sharing beautiful questions you can ask yourself, and practices to try, this is going deeper and more metaphysical than that.

It’s about how we’ve become disconnected from ourselves and our essence and how we can begin to reclaim it - for ourselves and humanity.

It’s about how we can be more present in the ceremony of life, even in the “mundane-ness”, and step more into the vision we desire and the people we know we’re meant to become.

This episode isn’t a prescription and it’s not another negotiation of if you do THIS, then you get THAT.  This journey is not a ONE way, one path - so I invite you to listen with an open mind, and open heart.

Take what resonates with you. Embody in yourself this week a piece of the wisdom you heard in this episode. Come back to it in weeks, months and years to see what lands differently.

This is your permission: permission to look at your life like a blank canvas, and go paint your magic. OHH and definitely permission to paint outside the lines.

Go into this episode with the intention of coming out feeling grounded, feeling like you have permission to go forth with WHATEVER is calling you inside.

Get ready to be ready, to FEEL ready: ready to release, ready to slow down, or ready to shine bright with something new.

Friend, I can’t promise exactly what you will take from this episode but I can promise you this:  there will be medicine in here that meets you with exactly what you need.  There are beautiful, gorgeous nuggets in here and a connection to something deeper, more powerful, more enlightening and grounding than a “map with 5-steps to success” can offer.

So come with me, and get ready to be taken on a journey here today  - a journey with Rob and Gary - The Journeymen Collective.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • The “energetic load” that people are carrying (34:33)

  • How to connect to your inner self and voice (39:24)

  • Tools and ideas to listen to yourself ( 43:38)

  • Slowing down to speed up (1:16:40)

The Journeymen Collective Bio:

Gary Logan, ATCD - Founder

For more than 40 years Gary has developed a deep awareness of the mind-body-spirit connection within human beings. His journey of self-exploration began when he embarked on his career as an actor. Gary explored many ways into stillness of mind and body through fitness, meditation, music and dance, with a primary focus of studying the Alexander Technique with his first teacher in London, England. Throughout his life, Gary was continually learning that a deeper awareness of the psycho-physical connection would help him liberate the destructive subconscious programs from his childhood. Everything in Gary’s life, from teaching the Alexander Technique to Healing Touch, culminated into a quantum leap once he embarked on his first shamanic journey to assist him through a time of grief and mild depression.

The numerous personal and spiritual paths that he has explored were all woven together into a deep and broad tapestry of true soulful expression in collaboration with Robert to form The Journeymen Collective. Gary was shown the shamanic path is his higher purpose. He is deeply committed to awakening people from their slumber to help them access the richness of the present moment on an ever-increasing frequency.

Gary’s deep awareness of the psycho-physical connection, through the Alexander Technique, is a key distinction of The JourneyMen Collective work that prepares the whole being for the ceremonies and facilitates a dynamic integration process; from the spiritual to the physical embodiment of renewal. During spiritually intense work we often forget about the physical structure; as the human being releases old thought and emotional patterns from the quantum fabric of reality the physical structure requires support to unfurl away from the old faulty sensory awareness.

Gary lives through his mantra for life: JUST BE.

Robert Grover, MSc. - Founder

In 2003, Robert experienced a profound awakening which opened him to knowledge of deeper realms of existence. For the first two years, he was left with a typical western approach that left many questions unanswered and deeply unfulfilled.

Robert’s awareness was grounded into understanding reality when he discovered his first spiritual teacher.  It changed the entire course of his life, leading him out of a successful corporate career that he pursued since his youth, onto an ever-evolving path of self-mastery. By following his deep inner guidance, Robert was led to his own shamanic journey, where he remembered that his higher purpose is to help others connect into their innate guidance systems and universal truths through the shamanic path. He learned to honour and offer the dynamic flow of unique metaphysical technology, that is continually unfurling within him, for the people that embark on their own journey.

Combining his lifelong exploration of science with mastery of his multisensory spiritual awareness allows each and every client to be energetically prepared for the shamanic journey.  Robert’s quantum energy work provides a deep cleaning and clearing so that the client can activate their greatest potential from within themselves and be a human catalyst impacting the entire collective consciousness.

Rob lives through his mantra for life: Reconnect to Your Soul's Remembering

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #82 - How ChatGPT Can Help You Simplify Life, Master Your Time, and Maximize Your Potential (and Fulfillment!) as Your Virtual Sidekick for Success

If you haven’t heard about ChatGPT yet, you might be living under a rock.

I say that with no judgment because usually, that’s me. I mean, to this day, I’ve never watched an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians and I legit could not pick any of them out of a crowd except for Kim.

But something about this tool, ChatGPT, caught my attention, and it’s blown my mind and I have a feeling it’s about to blow yours too :)

So what is ChatGPT? In short:

ChatGPT is a computer program designed to talk like a human. Think of it as a robot that can have conversations with you through text messages. It has been trained to understand and respond to a wide range of topics, from science and technology to sports and entertainment.

And in case you’re wondering, YES that whole description and came from ChatGPT itself.

In Episode 82 of Goalden Girls Podcast, I really want to focus on how it can help YOU to save time and save your mental energy, help you with decision fatigue not so you can add more to your overfull plate – and keep people pleasing and over-perfecting sh*t.

NO.

I want you to save your brain power, and your energy -  so you can spend more time LIVING, enjoying, and being in YOUR zone of genius. Live your BEST LIFE, my friend! Sleep more, yoga more, dance more, whatever you desire!!

Sooo, what can ChatGPT Do for You?

When asking it to get specific for driven, ambitious, successful women who tend to be overachieving, people-pleasing perfectionists, here’s what it comes up with:

  1. Schedule appointments and manage your calendar

  2. Create to-do lists and set reminders

  3. Prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance

  4. Track your expenses and budget more efficiently

  5. Search the web and answer questions on any topic

  6. Send and respond to emails and messages

  7. Edit and proofread documents and emails

  8. Summarize and organize research articles or papers

  9. Take notes and save them for future reference

  10. Manage social media accounts and schedule posts

  11. Set fitness and wellness goals and track your progress

  12. Find healthy recipes and plan meals

  13. Manage your travel plans and book flights or hotels

  14. Look up local events and book tickets

  15. Translate text or conversations into different languages

  16. Create and send invoices or receipts

  17. Set up virtual meetings or webinars

  18. Create and customize presentations or slideshows

  19. Play brain games and improve your cognitive skills

  20. Practice mindfulness and stress management techniques

That’s a little about it – straight from the horse’s mouth.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t found an easy way to get it to manage or schedule posts to my social media account, or calendar. It doesn’t seem super straightforward to me but there must be a way.

And it will be interesting to see. My prediction is that there will be experts in this technology that can set this up FOR us – that will then make life easier.

Keys to success when using ChatGPT:

  • Be as specific as possible. Give it as much background as you can. What’s the tone? Who's it for?  IE. “Give me ideas for a graphic designer who works with small to medium b-2-b businesses” is going to be better than “give me ideas for a graphic designer”.

  • Define the role you want ChatGPT to take:

    • For example, it can be a tour guide for you and suggest places to visit.

  • Define the target audience

  • Define the communication channel:

    • An email, Linkedin post, video script, or even a poem

      • You can get it to use short sentences, address the audience directly, speak to women specifically.

  • Step by step prompting seems to work best. For example, if it’s a more complex task and there’s several steps, break it down

  • Can put content in bullet points, action steps, and tables

  • Ask it to regenerate with what you want more of - or less of. Regenerate a few times.

  • Finally - really important:  create the vibe/energy you DOOO want!!! - add “friendly, professional, urgent”

Important notes:

  • Clear instructions are key

  • When doing communication, first complete the draft questions first. Use the answers to guide and give instructions to ChatGPT:  Consider and write out:

  • Intention: What’s your intention with this email/communication?

  • Problem: What’s the problem you’re trying to solve? What challenges are your ideal clients facing with respect to this topic? What are their hesitations/excuses/limiting beliefs? What are their desires?

  • Transformation: What transformation are you trying to achieve? What call to action do we want your audience to take action on?

  • End: By the end of this email:  How do you want them to feel at the end of the email? What do you want your client to believe at the end of this email? What do you want them to do?

  • NEVER copy and paste and use a direct ChatGPT answer. Always edit, make adjustments, proofread, and add your brand wordings and vibe.

By leveraging this tool, you can save time, reduce decision fatigue, and free up mental energy to focus on what matters most to you. It's not about doing more, but doing what matters most, and doing it in the most efficient and effective way possible.

So, take some time to reflect on where you can maximize your time and energy, and consider how ChatGPT can help you achieve your goals. Start small and experiment with using it in your personal or professional life.

Remember to set clear guidelines and boundaries around its use to ensure that it aligns with your values and ethics.

So, here’s my invitation to you:  take action and make the most of this incredible tool, ChatGPT - give it a try this week.

See how it can help you live more life and reach our fullest potential. And if this isn’t the tool, that’s cool - keep your eyes on the prize:  a life where you live joyfully, puruposefully and in your zone of genius.

Remember, the possibilities are endless, and the only limit is your imagination. Let’s go out there and make the most of this precious life and the moment we have today.

Tune in to get a detailed breakdown on how ChatGPT can help you save time and mental energy.

This a tall order but my promise to you is to make this tech talk (from a non-techie) interesting and uplifting. The ultimate goal here?  It’s really not about an AI tool, or technology, it’s about you reconnecting to your energy, purpose and your potential.

So grab a cup or tea, or a glass of fresh kombucha,  sit back, and join me for this fun, educational and hopefully joyful and purposeful - inspiring conversation

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • What “ChatGPT” is (11: 05)

  • Limitations of ChatGPT (16:23)

  • Benefits of ChatGPT for the busy entrepreneur (19:48)

  • How I use ChatGPT in my business and how you can to (21:42)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #81 - How Freelancing Can Help You Manage Your Risk, Pay Your Bills and Chase Your Dreams, Even In The Face of Uncertainty with Joy Batra

If you’re reading this, chances are you grew up hearing the same recipe for success that I did. The recipe went something like this:

Go to school. Get a degree. Maybe a second degree, or Master’s or Ph.D.

Get a stable job with benefits, and a retirement plan. Stay there until age 65, then retire.

BAM! Success would be inevitable.

The fact that so many people are still stuck thinking, feeling and living in a life where this is the only recipe for success, that honestly drives me and my team, day after day to create content, coach and lead you to see another way.

Let’s talk about this advice though for a moment:

This advice has been lovingly passed down from the last few generations to us. It was great advice a few decades ago.  But the truth is, the world has changed but the advice, the SUCCESS Recipe if you will, it hasn’t.

The reality of today is that so many people are stuck in jobs they don’t like, in work environments or situations that aren’t supportive of the life they want to be living.

Maybe that’s you: you’re doing work you don’t enjoy. Maybe you have a creative pursuit or passion and don’t know how to go for it.

Maybe you know there’s untapped potential within you and you know your job isn’t the way it’s going to come out.

Today, most people will have at least 7 careers in their lifetime. The average person holds 12.4 jobs between the ages of 18 and 54.

Think about your own career, how many jobs have you had already? How many companies have you explored?

And if you're the unicorn who’s stayed in one role or at one company for over 10 years look around you: you will notice your friends, family and network likely hasn’t.

Today,  jobs, career paths, companies, are all evolving as technology changes, the world changes, and as humans -  I BELIEVE - we collectively step more into our power and stop settling.

All this culminates in the workforce, with the rise of FREELANCING.

Here’s the thing:  I know taking the leap into freelancing can be scary and overwhelming, and that’s why I’m honored to be joined today by Joy Batra, author of the brand new book “The Freelance Mindset: Unleashing Your Side Hustles for Better Work, Play, and Life”.

Maybe you’re thinking “I don’t know HOW - how do I actually make the transition into freelancing??

Maybe you’re afraid – no, not maybe:  you probably ARE afraid. Afraid of not knowing how, afraid of failure, not being able to pay the bills, and afraid of not being taken seriously by friends, family and colleagues.

We all know that when we quit the “stable” job, we miss out on the “stable” paycheck.  With freelancing, there will be be ups and downs in the pay, and maybe you don’t know how to navigate the ups and downs when expenses like mortgages/rent, etc, are the same every month

And of course, you’re driven - ambitious - passionate about doing cool work in this world… and you might be worried that your career growth may be stunted or you won’t be able to see any progress without a corporate ladder to climb.

That’s what Joy’s here to help us ALL with.

In this episode, you will:

  • Learn how to prepare for a leap into freelancing

  • Discover how freelancing can either a) be a way to channel your creative pursuit/passion, or be the part time job to fuel and fund your passions

  • Be able to answer for yourself whether you should quit your job to follow your passions

  • Learn how to answer the inevitable "what do you do?" question as a freelancer (and how to handle it)

  • Get tips on how to deal with the feast or famine cycles of freelancing

  • Understand ways to grow your career, even if you're not (only) climbing a corporate ladder

One of my favourite parts of this episode is that you’re going to hear a lot of real, life examples of people in ALL kinds of industries who have created both career and personal success: without a traditional 9-5 job.

By the end of this episode, you’ll realize that freelancing can actually be MORE stable option than just one job.

You’ll understand what it takes to become a freelancer, how to handle the ups and downs, and be ready to step into the “Freelancer Mindset”.

You’re going to feel confident, empowered, hopeful - and most of all, like you can create whatever life and career success it is you desire.

So if you’re ready to stop settling for a job or career that isn’t working for you or ready to stop hiding your passions, and READY to bring out the best in yourself, tap into your unrealized potential and TRULY take control of your career - and life – this episode is for you.

Get ready to be inspired, motivated and transformed by the wisdom of Joy Batra, and the insights we’re sharing today!

So, listen in and discover the power of creating your OWN recipe for success.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • Definition of the freelance mindset (22:05)

  • Challenges people face when getting started with freelancing (34:05)

  • Tips for people that can help them to move through the cycle of feast and famine (43:55)

  • Rapid fire question (1:13:35)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #80 - Let's Get Reel: How to Have Fun, Ditch Perfectionism, and Grow Your Business with Instagram Reels with Laura Bitoiu

The social media landscape has changed dramatically over the last few years.

I mean , do you all remember when Instagram was a photo app? I still remember the days of stock photography being enough to grow huge followings.

This was before all the filters, reels, changing algorithms, IGTV, and drama, and before we knew what Clubhouse and TikTok were.

As much as I yearn for those days in some ways, and as much as I’ve been in denial the truth is change is here, and it’s time for us even me to adapt :)
This is me coming to the realization that REELS are here to stay — and I’m ready to jump in!

Today we're talking about how to use Instagram reels in your business, to launch your next online product or service.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the ever-changing landscape of Reels, or if you're intimidated by the need to dance, sing, or seemingly light things on fire, to go viral, you're not alone.

So many people and businesses are struggling with reels:

  • Reels keep changing. How you do it, features, exposure/reach - unpredictable - and this is frustrating and annoying as business owners.

  • Reels feel time-consuming to create, especially compared to a simple picture + caption

  • There’s also a lot of pressure to do reels - and while IG recently announced they’re going back to more pictures, the truth is the platform itself has been prioritizing video. And no one knows what the future looks like.

  • Reels are time sensitive - if you miss a trend, you miss out on the fly. So much for batching content and scheduling months or even weeks in advance!!!

  • There’s also the reality that success with reels takes time. It takes time to get results hence people don't learn it

  • And seriously the performance aspect to make it bigger, better, and do wild things – it’s REALLY there. That pressure – I FEEL it!!

  • On top of that, we have our own limits: Fear of visibility, Perfectionism

  • The fear, will it be worth it? The time, energy, putting myself out there

With all that said, it’s clear - so many of us entrepreneurs need help, and

In this episode, we're brought: the expert, Laura Bitoiu, a social media strategist with 8 years of experience and a reach of over 1 million people organically each month on Instagram.

Laura is going to share with us her accidental journey into becoming a Reels Expert, and how her life changed after discovering the power of Reels.

You are going to learn a lot of great tips and strategies for making reels that will allow you to get in front of your target audience, grow your followers organically and grow your business.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • What a "Reels Recipe" is, and how you can use this formula to create more content in less time

  • The key ingredients to include in a reel to help them get results for you and your business

  • What B-Roll is, how to shoot it and use it in your reels to make content creation easier!!

But it's not all work and no play.

Laura is going to teach us how to have more fun with Reels, to drop the perfectionism, how to handle online social media trolls, and how to take the pressure off and make Reels more approachable and less overwhelming.

By the end of the episode, our promise to you is that you'll spend less time creating more reels, stop taking Reels so seriously, and have fun with it.

**WE also have a special invitation and FREE challenge for you with an exciting giveaway - that we’re sharing at the end, so be sure to listen until the end to hear it and join in.

So, are you ready to join the Reels revolution?

This is going to be an episode you don't want to miss. Grab a notebook and pen, and get ready to take some notes, because Laura is about to empower you to take your social media and business to the next level.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • What a "Reels Recipe" is (11:23)

  • The key ingredients to include in a reel ( 12: 56)

  • How to you balance being productive on social media and using it as a tool without it using you (47:20)

  • Rapid Fire Question (59:37)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #79 - How to Grow Your Real Estate Portfolio Without Using Your Own Funds or Splitting Profits with Joint Venture Partners with Mel Dupuis from Investor Mel & Dave

Traditional thinking and traditional real estate investing strategies go something like this:

Save up for a down payment. Choose a property. Go get a mortgage for 60-80% of the value of the property. Spend your savings on the down payment. Acquire property.

Then repeat, if you want to grow.

That is what you’ve been taught, right?

Well, here’s the problem: saving up money for a down payment plus closing costs can take a while.

Here’s the other problem with scaling in real estate: when it comes to residential financing - aka - the mortgage - , the bank decides how much they’re going to lend you based on your personal income.

Eventually, you’ll hit an income ceiling

Then you can no longer buy rental properties in this “traditional way”.

That is until we heard about creative financing, OPM - AKA Other People’s Money

We talk in-depth on these issues and more on Episode 79 of Goalden Girls Podcast with Melanie Dupuis where we talk about growing your real estate portfolio using creative financing and OPM.

In this episode ,you’ll learn:

  • The accident that changed Mel and Dave’s life: and how you can create change without needing a traumatic event. Their story might bring you to tears - like it did me - and remind you of what’s mos important in life.

  • The power of OPM and how it can help you scale without using your own funds or splitting profits with joint venture partners

  • Three creative financing strategies and how to create win-win deals to grow your business

  • The nitty gritty of OPM: what deals can look like, examples of how they’re structured, how to attract investors and what to include in investor presentations and packages

  • What you need before you get started in real estate, both in terms of resources and mindset

  • Real talk and tips for how a busy power couple  and family - “does it all”, and how to work together successfully

  • Learn about the common mindset blocks that come up around real estate investing and how to break down the blocks to get out of your own way

By the end of this episode, you’ll understand how to grow your real estate portfolio without using your own funds.
You’ll have a solid understanding of what “creative financing” and OPM is.

Mel Bio:  Melanie and Dave Dupuis, well known as Investor Mel & Dave, are innovative real estate investors, best-selling authors and award-winning mentors who have SOLELY acquired over 240 apartments in just a few short years in Canada, the US, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. Their strategy gives them the ability to purchase properties… without using any of their own money or relying on joint ventures. This also allows them to own 100% of the property - which means they keep 100% of the equity, cash flow, and appreciation.

With over 23 years of combined experience in real estate investing, Investor Mel & Dave are founders of the Action FamilyTM Mentorship Program and are dedicated to helping individuals create their own time, location, and financial freedoms. They do this by helping them build their real estate portfolio without using their own funds while solely keeping ownership. To date, they’ve helped over 1500 students in Canada and the United States.

Starting out, Mel was working full-time at her local college, and Dave was a full-time firefighter. They understand what it’s like to be stuck in the ‘hamster wheel’ of trading time for money. But they knew they wanted a better life for their family, so they chose to step up and make real estate investing work no matter what. After discovering the “Creative Financing” strategies they now use, they were able to purchase 12 properties in 12 months (56 units) in 2017 and both quit their jobs in their 30s.

Following a horrific life-changing highway crash in 2018, they wrote a Real Estate Investing book “Real Estate Investing Secrets” which topped the Amazon #1 Best Seller list early in its launch. As well, Mel is the co-author of “The Only Woman in the Room”, which also achieved Bestseller status. They are living proof that if you don’t let anything stop you, success can be yours.

They won the 2019 Chamber of Commerce - Small Business of the Year Award, the 2020 Canadian Business Award as Leading Experts in Real Estate Investing, the 2021 Canadian Business Award as Top Real Estate Mentors and the 2022 CBRB Best Investors in Canada Award.

In their free time, Mel & Dave enjoy relaxing at their cottage (purchased with OPM), spending time with their 3 kids and 2 dogs (Rexy and Millie), and creating unforgettable memories on family trips.

Along with podcast appearances on shows like The Real Brad Lea and Bigger Pockets, and stage appearances with Kevin O’Leary (Shark Tank) and Michelle Ramanow (Dragon’s Den) Mel and Dave are well known on social media. Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #78 - Lisa’s “Self Made” Millionaire Story: How We Did It, My Advice, The Mindset Behind It, and How to Become One Yourself

I was recently asked by one of my good friends to contribute to a video about being a self-made millionaire and share advice for those on their journey to their first one million dollars and beyond.

Before I stand on my soapbox about the whole “self-made” thing. Don’t worry, that’s coming

Let me be real with you:

The idea of being in a video with other millionaire women gave me MASSIVE imposter syndrome. I wondered if I was qualified.

Would people care what I have to say?

Is my financial success worthy since I had - and continue to have - support growing financially with my husband?

ALL. THE. Things.

Well, Spoiler alert - I did the video.

And in this episode, I’m sharing with you the advice that I was asked to give:

How did you make your first million dollars?

What do you think has been the secret to your success?

What advice would you give to someone else who wants to make a million dollars?

AND What’s the most important money lesson you’ve learned so far?

These are FANTASTIC questions - and in the process of answering them, I realized there was a lot of really great content, that might be helpful for you.

When I recorded for Rachel, I shared a lot of depth and details – actual numbers, insights, and information that I think is really helpful.

But in the end, it didn’t make it to the final edit of the video because there were 3 other amazing women contributing. So that’s why I’m doing this podcast episode.

I know a lot of YOU also want to gain a solid financial foundation for yourself: and it’s VERY helpful to learn from those who have gone before us.

Plus we’ve done something things well that I want to share, and some things that didn’t so you might as well SAVE Time and frustration and maybe money and do it quicker and easier :

Oh - and about imposter syndrome?   I’ll share a little about that. And about how my “worst fear” came true and I’m still here ;)

So if you want to know the answers from me on those 4 questions - how I made my first million, what do I think is the secret to my financial success, what advice i’d give to others wanting to make a million dollars, and the most important money lesson so far, listen in.

Also quick disclaimer: I am not a financial advisor. Please do your own due diligence and work with experts that can support you and your personalized situation. :)

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • How I made my first million dollars (11:23)

  • The secret to my success (17:28)

  • Advice I would give to someone else who wants to make a million dollars ( 21:03)

  • The most important money lesson I’ve learned so far (24:03)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #77 -Interest Rates Are Rising: What Other Investors and Real Estate Experts Are Doing in Times of Uncertainty and Recession)

Both new and seasoned investors are hitting “Pause” on real estate right now. The reason? Rising interest rates.

In 2022, the Bank of Canada did 7 increases on the interest rate, and on January 25th from the Bank of Canada, the rates were raised yet again, kicking 2023 off with even higher interest rates.

After years and years of low interest rates, the last 12 months have seen things shift MASSIVELY.

As real estate investors, we’ve noticed it.  If you have a variable rate mortgage, no doubt you’ve noticed it.

Realtors have told us they’ve seen slowdowns, and I recently saw one of my mortgage broker friends who I deeply respect post a hilarious reel showing her busy busy busy in 2022, exhausted and barely making it through… fast-forwarding to, cruising Netflix in a snuggie in 2023.

So, what’s a real estate investor to do? What does the future hold?

The truth is, none of us have a crystal ball, but for this episode, I asked some of my favourite real estate experts: fellow investors, mortgage brokers, realtors, and people who do many of those things for their words of wisdom.

The guests on this episode have decades of combined experience, and are true experts in the field.

Today’s guest experts include two mortgage brokers from different sides of Canada:  Ryan Zupan, and Lee-Ann Nicholson. Both Ryan and Lee-Ann are also real estate investors so they have a well-rounded perspective and deep understanding of what investors are facing.. Because they’re in the trenches with us.

I’ve also invited my husband Troy Michaud, and Dave Dupuis - one half of the Investor Mel and Dave team - to share their experiences as multifamily investors.  Between Troy and Dave – and Mel and I - their partners – over 300 doors have been purchased, and there’s a whole wealth of knowledge to learn from there.

I asked them 4 questions:

  1. What are you doing to protect your real estate portfolio (and for this, they all have one)

  2. How have rising interest rates changed your strategy

  3. What is your opinion on the interest rates and what they’ll do over the next one to five years

  4. Any tips or suggestions for other investors at this time

Whether you’re a seasoned investor, or just getting started, this episode will give you valuable insider insights, and tips for navigating this ever-evolving interest rate environment.

So sit back, relax (I know, easier said than done with these rates), take a few deep breaths, and listen in.

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #76 -10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Set Goals

Sometimes at the end of the year, it isn’t all champagne, sparklers and celebrations.

It can and I say this from experience instead, feel like it’s all unfinished tasks, never-ending to-do lists, and goals and progress that seems STUCK.

You may feel deflated, discouraged, and overwhelmed with your goals and progress so far. Or maybe lack thereof.

Maybe you look back at the last year in a haze like what ACTUALLY happened?! (or is that – just me?!

Or perhaps the year just FLEW by and you’re left a little stunned feeling happy, busy and not grounded or fully rooted in the experience.

There are a few reasons this happens:

  • We don’t give ourselves credit for how far we’ve come

  • We don’t take time to pause and reflect and celebrate.

  • We overestimate what we can do in a year, underestimate the power of 5 or 10 years

  • Sometimes we’re actually under-living our lives BECAUSE we recycle our to-do list + goals. We put them on autopilot without being intentional about what’s working, what isn’t and what we truly want.

  • We don’t adapt or frankly even realize when that’s changed. And then we wonder why we’re unfulfilled, unhappy, and feel like we’re going through the motions of life. It’s because we are if we aren’t intentional about waking up.

That’s why I’m SUCH a fan and advocate of reflection. And the end of the year is the PERFECT Time to do this.

Not only is there such a natural transition - a closing of one chapter, and the excitement of the blank pages in the chapters ahead

And for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the weather is frightful and allows us that space to be cozy , to get comfortable, to journal and reflect.

And to those of you in the southern hemisphere , you get to do this on a beach, so you actually do win at life for that :)

So that begs the question, how do you reflect on the year? What questions do you ask and answers?  How do you take the lessons?  How do you do this effectively and efficiently?

Drumroll please – I introduce to you, Your Year In Review!!!

This is my signature process for doing your own, personal annual review and get you ready to plan for the next year.

To go along with this episode, there’s a free playbook you can grab at lisamichaud.com/yearinreview — go ahead and grab that. You can follow along.

And if you want to take this one level deeper:

  • Maybe you’ve never done something like this before and you’re really cravign going deep

  • Or maybe you’re pretty good at reflecting and journaling so you want the extra guidance so that you can take this to the next level…

I invite you to invest in the YOUR Year In Review Masterclass.

It’s a 4-part, self-study course designed to take you through the three steps here:  1) Close the Chapter,  2) Reflect and Celebrate and 3) Review your Decade.

You’ll find videos to guide you, and individual Playbooks - a template - for all this  at www.lisamichaud.com/youryearinreview.  All the links are in the shownotes, and I encourage you to hit pause –  and go check those out right now.

Now, I hope you do grab the Playbook at the VERY least because listening to this without taking the time to reflect for yourself just isn’ going to get you results…. And I would love if you invest in the Masterclass…

But either way I know this:

We’re always learning and growing especially from the challenges, disappointments and “failures” – this is an opportunity to take the lesson - and fully embrace it <3

By taking the time to complete your Year in Review now – before you set goals for this year

You will benefit.

You will:

  • Learn how to complete your annual personal review and get the most out of it.

  • Solidify lessons learned from the last year: extracting the gold from the crap, you could say so that you can integrate the lessons into your life, and make the crap ALMOST worth it ;)

  • Gain perspective on how far you’ve come

  • Feel motivated and excited again

  • Get closure on this past year, and feel FRESH to kick off a new year with aligned and intentional goals (and action!).

Don’t just listen to this one: grab a pen and paper – your Year in Review Playbook, and enjoy this process.

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • Reflection Points ( 10:50)

  • Chapter 1: Close the Chapter (13:06)

  • Chapter 2: Celebrate and Reflect on the past year (14:42)

  • Chapter 3: Decade in Review (17:38)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #75 - Become a Diet-Free Diva and Take Back your Best YOU with Tracy Desjardins

Hey there friend:  I’m starting this episode a little different, with some Content Transparency:

The title of this episode is “Become a Diet-Free Diva and take back your best YOU with Tracy Desjardins” and with the title, you can probably guess that we’re going to be talking about food and ditching diets.

But in case you’re auto-playing episodes, or listening in the car and didn’t see the title, I wanted to say this RIGHT up front because I know this can be a sensitive topic.

In this episode, we talk about food, disordered eating, mental health, body image, and eating disorders in this episode. As with ALL content - podcast, book, social media, tv, please listen mindfully and intentionally. If you decide this is not a topic that’s not for you to explore in this moment, no worries: go ahead and honour yourself and choose another episode of Goalden Girls Podcast to listen to intentionally instead.

With that, let me tell you a little about why this episode and this topic is so deeply important both personally, and for all of you too.

This episode is our first episode of 2023 and it’s so fitting. (I can’t lie - I definitely planned it this way.. Sort of, after all our tech issues with our guest got sorted out).

This topic is so relevant because the beginning of the year is the time when we’re INUNDATED with diet, fitness messaging and images.

But frankly, I think diet culture haunts us ALL year long, not just in the blatant advertising and “new year, new you” messaging.

While I wish I could wave a wand and change the whole diet industry - actually - most industries right now haha – I can’t do that in this episode.

And the messaging I’m actually MORE interested in changing in today’s episode is how we talk to ourselves, and the messaging internally, often on repeat, because it’s often also haunting us.

Maybe you’ll recognize some of these messages:

“I’ll book the family photos after I lose the last 10 pounds”.

“I’ll go on a date when I can fit into my favourite dress.”

“I don’t want to do the hike until my body looks like the other hikes.”

For me, I’ve had a lot of these thoughts. I didn’t go live on Facebook for the longest time because I wanted to lose the last 10 pounds.

I know I’m not the only one who thinks this or says these things.

Some of these are conscious: through some coaching and some loving butt-kicks from my coach, I broke through the Facebook Live barrier.

But how much of these thoughts - this PLAYING SMALL - is unconscious?

I suspect a lot.

Here’s what I see:

Women are at war with food.

We’re trying to lose weight with restrictive dieting and “figuring out how to eat” so that we can THEN live life/accomplish our goals.

We think we need to lose weight before we can live our life fully and on purpose.  We put our dreams on hold.

Today’s guest, Tracy Desjardins has always wanted to coach women holistically but didn’t think she’d be respected until she was the perfect size.

And when she told me that, it really hit home:

How many other women worry they won’t be respected unless they’re a certain size?

How many want to compete in a 5k race, But are waiting.

How many women want to go for a career change. But aren’t.

How many women aren’t sharing their gifts and talents, and leadership skills?

How many women aren’t showing up with their full selves and presence?

I mean, how many don’t get in photos with their kids… all because of their bodies?!

It’s heartbreaking.

And it’s SO messed up!

Diets are normalized: so much so that people believe they’re essential for life.

They also: spoiler alert - don't work long term and can perpetuate the cycle.

Diet culture leaves us feeling ashamed of our eating habits AND we become disempowered because we don’t know how to find answers for our own health.

Dieting ends up consuming our time, mind, body, and energy — over living LIFE – creating, laughing, playing, and achieving the goals, dreams and desires we have <3

And BECAUSE we fail at dieting (because it doesn’t work) - OR we view dieting as “failure. PERIOD” – this affects our self-perception.

We feel shame and it robs us of self-trust and confidence in other areas of our life. WE are disempowered. It’s easy to stay safe and small and we wait to have our dream life until AFTER our successful diet.

Well you can probably imagine I’m not going to stand for that - and I know if you’re here listening, neither are you. And today’s guest, Tracy, is here to help us get out of this downward spiral … and lift us up.

Tracy Desjardins is an International Health Coach, Mind Body Eating Coach, Fitness Professional and writer who specializes in holistic wellness coaching for women.

You’ll hear:

  • Tracy’s three-decade journey with her food-body-self relationship, and how she sees this - and has lived - both the war and an opportunity

  • How dieting fuels toxicities like perfectionism, people pleasing, and lack ofself-worthh, robs us of our self-trust and dignity and how to DITCH the dieting

  • The transformative outcome and FREEDOM that comes with an empowered food-body-self relationship

  • How you can learn to trust yourself with food and stop obsessing about food

  • The 5 steps to becoming a Diet Free Diva - a pathway to excellence for yourself that includes Food, Body, Mind and Spirit.

  • You’ll hear me challenge Tracy - and find out - is it just as easy as eating whatever I want?! What if I actually do want to lose weight? Will this work?!

  • Advice on how to raise a child (in my case, a daughter) in this day and age with dieting so prevalent, starting as young as age 7

  • How self worth ties into all this and how working with a coach and having a community can truly transform this

You’ll stop trying to “fix yourself” with food, and instead, hear the potential of what’s possible when we all FREE ourselves of diet culture understanding that you do not need diets for weight loss and improved health.

You’ll learn to trust yourself with food – and stop obsessing about food.

You’ll learn how to find the answers to what works for you so you can trash the scale and measure healthy success in a different, more empowering way.

You’ll heal your relationship, and find peace with food – which can then help you get results, keep results and GET ON WITH LIFE!!

And best of all - you’ll connect with your inner diva - your purpose, talent, gift — the REASON you’re on this earth!!!!!

Friend, I invite you to:

Just imagine: what’s possible when all the women of the world - humans of the world - take all that energy we’re wasting playing small and self conscious and direct it towards our TRUE best selves.

If that vision doesn’t get you motivated and leap out of your chair excited yet, then I’ll leave that to the rest of this episode to do that.

Let’s get on with it – Here’s “Becoming diet-free divas and taking back our BEST Selves” with Tracy Desjardins.

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #74 - Embracing Femininity as a Super Power with Sarah Bohdanova from The Femininity Project

What comes to your mind when you think of the word “feminine”?

Honest question - do you feel feminine – or even desire to be feminine in your life?

As a coach who primarily serves women - and someone who’s always had a heart and soul for uplifting and empowering women in every way - this is a topic near and dear to my heart.

I don’t think it’s a secret that women are struggling in the world. Don't’ get me wrong; there’s been a lot of progress, and I certainly am grateful for that.

But I can’t help but notice that so many women are still exhausted, under-appreciated, undervalued – and under-living our lives.

Women - we’re out here busy - we’re trying to build a career, build businesses, raise families, keep a household running, exercise, meditate, stay hydrated, be sexy, keep ALL the tops spinning in our life…and look good doing it.

Now, I am certainly the women who believes you CAN have it all - it’s right there, in this podcast intro: that we DO believe you can have it all.

But it doesn’t mean you can DO everything, and it doesn’t mean we have to have it all at once. Or that we do it the same as anyone else would.

The truth is that as women, we’re told millions of things we should do, who we should be, and how we should act….

It’s my belief that we are still in an awakening as women — we’re still waking up and realizing that we can actually CONSCIOUSLY choose who we want to be, what we want and go create it.

I notice that a lot of women feel confined - or limited by certain labels – and often even see femininity as a weakness. And while none of the women I know fit into a box, we’re still navigating creating our own experiences and expanding out of the proverbial box of what a woman is.

The world, as it currently sits, is still generally a man’s world – and as women, I do believe we’re trying to figure out how to step into our full power, and potential.

And the truth is, I believe femininity CAN be a superpower - if we know how to access it, build it into our lives and evolve WITH it.

Today’s guest, Sarah Bohdanova, is a femininity coach who teaches women to get that pop-bottle worthy life. Leaving a successful competitive dance career where she became a World Professional Semi-Finalist and an Award Winning Coach across North America to go full-time with her coaching business, she realized how many women were struggling to embrace their femininity as their super power.

In this day and age, this conversation feels really complicated. I will be really honest; I actually put off recording this episode for years, because I wasn’t sure how to navigate the topic mindfully.

The words woman/mother/feminine/femininity can be very triggering.

I’ve come to the realization, that despite my people-pleasing nature, my job as a coach is to both support people to explore their triggers in a brave and safe space — and to provide people with ideas/concepts/tools/strategies/conversations – and products… that can help people improve their life to live it to their fullest.

And I honestly believe harnessing the power of femininity is one of those things that CAN make a really big difference: so it’s my job to talk about it, share it and put it out there for you to explore if it might serve YOU.

If you’ve been listening since our podcast reboot this summer - I’m not willing to tip-toe and avoid uncomfortable conversations – or ignore the grey space. I actually WANT to talk about the grey – the nuance.

I want to contribute to a culture that can talk about HARD things – and strangely enough— the concept of women, femininity and feminine power feels like one of those hard things right now.

Putting together this episode, and speaking about this feels like a bit of a minefield, because myself - and Sarah - are genuinely caring people… and frankly, I think our culture has taken this SO far that we can’t even talk about things like being a woman without worrying that we will offend someone or hurt someone.

It feels like sometimes, the labels are QUICK to come out: “transphobic” on one side, “letter people” on the other side. Far left. Far right.

And I think what we need is the courage to have drop the labels, open up the invitation for conversation and work to understand each other. AND TRULY honour our differences and let that be ok – and not have it be something that says something about who we are or aren’t.

I want to open up the grey space – the nuance, the conversation, the in-between. I know - Sarah and I both don’t want to hurt people..

And also, we want to have the courage to be who we are and be women. And to inspire others to step into that, if it feels right too.

Just as a label such as woman, wife, mother, feminine, #GIRLBOSS - those may not resonate with you or may even trigger you (which of course are opportunities to explore and heal)…

It’s also ok if those words excite you and appeal to you – and call to you.

This episode may not make everyone happy, it’s certainly not for everyone, and that’s ok.

Here’s my commitment to you, and to myself:

You may not like or resonate with everything we say.

But I will be a leader who respects others’ choices. I will hold the space to talk about hard things. I come to this conversation - and all my episodes - grounded, calm, compassionate, open and coming from MY BEST self. If I don't do that, I don’t hit record.

I’m willing to get it wrong sometimes, and willing to learn.

I’m willing to hear out all the perspectives and sides and I’m very grateful that Sarah is also open and willing to have this conversation - which can - as we said, feel like a minefield to walk through.

Gosh – ALL these disclaimers — but hey - THAT’S THE GREY!! That’s the nuance. And it’s why I’m ultimately really grateful for this podcast and ability to put out longer form content that allows me to add some (not all - but some) context, some more information and perspective.

Because I think it’s longer, nuanced conversations and questions and discussions like this that will help us HEAL, RECONNECT to each other, and UNITE, rather than divide.

So – back to femininity.

Earlier this year, I started realizing I had a deep desire to be more sensual and have more sensual experiences in my life…

And when Sarah says it – that “femininity is a superpower” – I believe it!

And this episode is for you if you’re curious, intrigued, and interested in this topic.

In this episode you will:

  • Understand the framework of femininity, learn how to create rituals and systems and add to your femininity toolbox so you can show up in life the way you want.

  • Realize that you don’t have to contort yourself into someone else’s definition of what womanhood/femininity is - and instead, can start defining it for yourself.

  • See femininity as a superpower.

  • Know how to tap into your femininity.

  • Understand the importance of evolving as a woman, knowing how to check in (like with all goals).

  • Learn how to INTEGRATE femininity in your life - a way you can BE in the world, and have systems that nurture you instead of having femininity be ONE MORE thing on your too-long to-do list.

By the end of this episode:

  • You’ll feel inspired and know that femininity is a superpower - and attainable for you!

  • You’ll hear - and FEEL - that it’s possible to have a relationship, career and lifestyle that nourishes your femininity while you nourish others. And you’ll have the tools, strategies and permission to access this.

  • You’ll hear that femininity can be learned and harnessed – and you can choose to harness it for success in your life too!

So let’s do this. Thanks for being here - thanks for being open. Let’s dive into Femininity!

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #73 - How Your Contracts Can Change Your Mindset In Your Business - Your Legal Peptalk with Jaime Bell

Talk about law, contracts and legal terminology, and you’re likely to elicit the snooze response in most people.

Quick disclaimer: we use some not-so-child friendly words in here so if you have little ears, maybe hit pause until later. It’s not F bombs, but it’s not G-rated either - a little more like PG-13 so, act accordingly!

I say this humbly:  I initially went to University with the intention of being a lawyer…and then realized pretty quickly in my first few law classes that it was NOT for me. It turned out, law was a lot of reading, and a whole lot less sexy-TV courtroom drama than I expected.

While I definitely blame all the legacy Television networks for the dramatization of law. the truth is that for a lot of people, LEGAL show watching or NOT – legal documents can be boring, and tedious.

Unfortunately, as business owners especially, the law is PRETTY damn important for us to be able to do a good job, to operate, and to ensure we’re upholding - and delivering - for both our clients and our own interests.

The problem?

Legal stuff can be overwhelming.

If you’re anything like me, you put it off - sometimes, until it’s too late.

Also, like me, you might have legal documents that you’ve found on the internet, borrowed from a business bestie, copied and pasted, and that may not protect you from missing out on payments, legal action, or worse.

When it comes to legal stuff, you don’t know what you don’t know. And legal advice and documents are an investment, there’s no doubt about it.

Now those are the pretty obvious things - lawsuits, customers not paying you - it’s easy to quantify that, and be motivated to avoid it.

But there’s also a more subtle cost to not having your legal house in order:

When you don’t have the legal side sorted out, it can result in half-assing your business. When you feel overwhelmed, you don’t put your hand up for opportunities and expand your business because you don’t feel confident, or know where to start - like for example with collaborations, business partnerships, the podcast, or influencer marketing.

Insert Jaime Bell from The Contracts Market. Jaime is a business lawyer and the founder of the Contracts Market where she provides legal contract templates to entrepreneurs. She also started a law firm, Wild Coast Law, where she provides legal support to business owners in British Columbia, Canada. With over a decade of business law experience, these two businesses allow Jaime to serve entrepreneurs and help them legally protect their businesses.

Today, she’s here on Goalden Girls Podcast to help us deconstruct legal everything for the business owner, freelancer, and entrepreneur.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why now, more than ever, it’s important to cover your legal butt

  • The biggest legal mistakes entrepreneurs make  - and how to avoid them

  • What scope creep and communication are - and why they are so important

  • What every website needs to be legally compliant

  • How to do affiliate marketing (again, legally, without getting you or anyone else in trouble)

  • A few stock phrases to help make your contract the “bad guy” so you can focus on delivering for your clients, and keep the flexibility, autonomy and best parts of your business (and work) work for you

Our promise to you? Besides keeping you awake and the conversation interesting - which I KNOW JAIME will do - we’ll make the complicated legal stuff approachable.

You’ll walk away more empowered to take ownership over the legal side of your business. You’ll feel confident with the important terms and conditions of your business, and take your business more seriously - which you know has a ripple effect on the growth of your business - and yourself!

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • The biggest mistakes that entrepreneurs make when it comes to legal and contracts, and how to avoid them. (7:55)

  • Why understanding the legal side of things is especially important now. (18:45)

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #72 - The Myth of Passive Real Estate Ownership and Reality of Successful Investing with Troy Michaud

The promise of real estate investing?

You’ve probably seen the ads and can imagine it now: Long, lazy days on a beach in the Caribbean. Snorkeling today, reading your favourite book again tomorrow. All this possible with real estate properties that pay you tens, hundreds of thousands of dollars… for doing nothing!

The reality of real estate ownership?

Phone calls with property managers. Printing, filling out, scanning and mailing documents back to the bank and your legal team.

Entering expenses into spreadsheets and accounting software, overseeing (or potentially doing) renovations, negotiating insurance and managing a team.

I know, I know - I sound like a GIANT Debbie Downer. But, while I am an eternal optimist and always will be, I also believe in reality, knowing it, and making aligned decisions knowing the truth.

And the truth?

Not all real estate investing is passive - in fact, a lot of ISN’T!

Today, I’m joined by my husband and business partner, Troy Michaud, to talk about the realities of real estate investing.

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #71 - Private Lending - How You Can Truly Be A Passive Real Estate Investor And Change Your Life with Marinella Nicolosi

It’s September 30th, 2022 - and no matter where I go, or who I talk to, everyone is noticing one thing: everything is getting more expensive.

From the grocery store, to the supplements we take, the clothes we wear, gas we put in our car, and beyond, inflation is at record highs in many places around the world.

The reasons for this are certainly a whole other topic - and a whole other kind of show - so while we can’t reverse inflation in this episode (sadly), we CAN do what we do best: empower you with information, inspiration, stories, tools, and resources to get you back in the driver’s seat of your life by focusing on the income you bring in.

I know SO many of you are interested in creating additional income streams, and setting yourself up for financial independence and financial freedom. You WANT to have more income to do the things you love, and not stress about the day-to-day expenses. And you want to set yourself up for a great retirement - and maybe even leave that 9-5 job sooner than later so you can actually live life, travel, spend time with your kids, your family and your friends.

Today, we’re talking about Private Lending as it relates to real estate investing. I always get feedback that you love to listen to and talk more about money and real estate, so that’s what this episode is about.

Private lending is when a private entity or an individual lends their own capital to other investors: usually in return for a higher rate than a bank would receive.

If you’ve listened to any of my previous podcast episodes about real estate with my husband, you may have heard us talk about working with private lenders and investors before. It’s a big reason why we’ve been able to scale so quickly and grow our portfolio.

But today’s guest expert, Marinella Nicolosi, is a private lender herself - and she helps other people learn about how to become a successful private lender. AKA – the person with the money, lending it out.

The truth is, most people don’t even know private lending exists, which is why I’m so excited about this episode, and this topic. It’s also true that most people love the idea of real estate but aren’t always keen on, or have the capacity for, the actual work involved including screening tenants, fixing toilets, negotiating insurance, refinancing and so much more.

Even if you do know about private lending and know that it’s a more passive way to invest in real estate, It can be scary and risky, if not done correctly. Starting with private lending can be overwhelming and if you don’t know enough about real estate yourself, it begs the question: how the heck do you lend your money to someone else without knowing about it yourself?

Because we’re talking about money, investments, and real estate, this feels like a good time to share this disclaimer with you:

The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are provided for informational purposes only, and should not be construed as an offer to buy or sell any securities or to make or consider any investment or course of action for more information. What you hear today is not financial advice. We are not licensed financial advisors, lawyers, mortgage brokers, or real estate professionals. This is not a substitute for professional legal, real estate, or financial advice, and in a platform like this where we speak to many individuals, each with your own journey and circumstances, it’s important to get personalized advice. I encourage you to build a trusted team of professionals and consult with them to support you in your personal situation with your individual goals.

Alright, now that we’ve got that out of the way, here’s what you can expect from this episode.

Listen in and you’ll:

  • Understand what private lending is and how it can add income and revenue to your life

  • Be inspired by Marinella’s story of how private lending changed her life - and how it’s leading her to an early retirement.

  • Learn about the common mistakes people make with private lending - and how to avoid them

  • Get Marinella’s tips for due diligence and how to be a successful private lender

  • Hear a controversial take on the idea of creating generational wealth - something I know you’re probably interested in. Marinella’s views may - or may not - change your mind on this goal

  • Learn why networking & relationship building is so important in real estate

  • Find out how important mindset and continued investment in your growth ALWAYS matters – I mean, I’m a big believer in this but you’re going to hear it from Marinella and not just me!

If you’re looking to create an additional income stream, are interested in real estate and want to find the right strategy to help you get started and scale up, this episode is for you.

By the end of this episode, you’ll feel hopeful and inspired, hearing stories from those who never gave up - and know that if you’re also open to learn, stay focused on your goals and connect with like-minded people you WILL be successful.

You’ll learn about Private Lending as a potential income stream, for yourself and your family, and whether you decide to pursue it or now, we believe in you - and know there’s a bright future ahead for us all.

Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #70 - Public Relations, Feminine Visibility and Thought Leadership with Almira Bardai

If you have a business, you’ve probably heard you should use publicity, media and public relations to build brand awareness and grow your business.

Whether you’re a business owner or not, maybe you’ve always wondered how do talk shows, podcasts, and blogs pick who their guests are?

And perhaps there’s a piece of you that’s thought “maybe it could be me” and then instantly gotten imposter syndrome. Full disclosure: I know I definitely have.

Maybe your mentor has told you to become a “thought leader” to differentiate yourself but you’re not sure where to start, what you have to share, or how to do it.

Publicity, media and public relations can be a GAME CHANGER for your personal brand - whether you’re a professional or entrepreneur, for your business and your career…if you know how to get it and leverage it.

But SOO many people - women especially - get stuck.

They underestimate their credibility, and decide not to put themselves out there. Women tend to think of themselves as “nobodies” or look at where we WANT to be and determine where we are now isn’t good enough. So we wait.

I say women because I don’t think men struggle with this as much.

So many of the women I know, and work with - and heck, even myself – we tend to make ourselves small. We minimize our story, our experience and our expertise.

Women are taught to fit in, to not rock the boat or we will get judged. And as a result, we people please, and live in fear of standing out, afraid that people won’t like us. *Again, I’m guilty as charged here*.

The impact of this?

We already know women don’t apply for jobs and ask for promotions as much as men. They don’t raise capital as much as men do.

But in the PR world?

It’s also making a difference because women aren’t applying for awards, or to be experts. As a result? Their brands - both business and personal - aren’t getting the exposure, growth, and credibility they deserve.

When women don’t get the credit and publicity, they’re not visible and they miss out on opportunities. Their businesses and careers are limited, and this extends to their ability to create generational wealth too: something you know we’re passionate about here.

On a bigger scale, our world suffers because we don't get to see women as role models as much as we should, and we miss out on the inspiration and role models we deserve.

BUT it’s not all hopeless. In fact, there’s never been a better time to get visible and step into the spotlight.

Today, I’m joined by Almira Bardai, one of North America’s leading experts in brand building and communications.

Almira is a fierce, powerful, BRILLIANT woman, and she’s here to help women see themselves as worthy, get more visible, and get the publicity they deserve. Also, be aware there is some swearing in the episode so if you’ve got little ears around, put some headphones on or listen to this episode later.

In this episode, we get tactical and spiritual.

You’ll learn:

  • What publicity and PR is – including some ideas and opportunities you may not have thought of and are evolving in our constantly changing world

  • Why it’s so necessary to be visible and what the benefits of PR are

  • Why it’s important to build your publicity, even if you’re in a corporate job or a professional

  • How to start to plant the seeds of PR now, not “someday”

  • Why “thought leadership” is important to establish and how to do it

  • When paid media is worth it and what to consider before paying for publicity

  • The difference between cold and warm pitches, and how much time to dedicate to PR

  • The importance of finding your unique angle and differentiating yourself from others: and believe me, if you’re here listening, you already ARE unique and different and your thoughts are worthy :)

Almira and I also talk spirituality, mindset and energy when it relates to PR including how manifestation and feminine energy plays into publicity, The Great Awakening, and how you can integrate more feminine energy into your life.

By the end of this episode, you’ll be ready to put your hand up, step into the spotlight and remember that YOU and your story are worthy of being shared. You’ll be ready to speak, share your voice, build connections, send pitches, and have the media want YOU.

We hope you walk away feeling confident, important and powerful - all things you ALREADY are - and you’ll feel inspired to take your confidence and power and go take action on your PR journey.

Listen up to this episode about public relations, feminine visibility and thought leadership with Almira Bardai…and get ready to get visible!!

Here are the juicy bits you can look forward to:

  • What is PR and publicity? (7:40)

  • Why PR is important. (10:30)

  • Why it is particularly important for women to be heard in media. (13:20)
